Kinda explains how the series went from trying to take down a monopolistic hegemonic American corp to fight some trans "Chinese Capitalist" covert menace with sci-fi because those are the "real enemies". At least the people who may want to watch it know about piracy.

From the beginning the show felt like it was going to be the liberal version of "revolution". I liked its first season a lot though. This explains a lot.

I stopped very early because the show felt very cringe to me. It felt like a fanfic written by a teenager who self inserts as humanity saviour but has no capability to asses what is causing the issues or what the issues are and instead wants to fight very obvious made up baddies. Anyone cares to explain how it went down?

It's honestly one of the best shows I've ever seen. But you do have to "buy in" to the narrative a bit. They use tech terminology correctly, but it's clear the writers got help from software developers, but are not developers themselves.

The show actually goes significantly deeper than just good guys and bad guys. A major theme of the show is the main characters mental illness, it's actually a very good portrayal of an unreliable narrator.

If you're willing to sit through the tech and the relatively shallow corporate bad guys, the show is truly worth watching.

Edit: I'm a dev but when I watched the show was not yet ML.

Well let's just stay at the very end

spoilereveryone in the world (? maybe just the in US even i dunno) got 1 million dollars in their bank accounts and lived happily ever after

The show has some good acting, some very good episodes and does tackle some important issues but the bigger picture stuff got very cringe indeed

I didn't finish the last season as I got bored with all the psychodelic sci-fi stuff and how tumblr kids seemed more interested in supernatural theorising than eating the rich, and it seemed to affect the show. But the first season or two is mostly about nullifying digital assets of a hegemonic multinational that looks suspiciously like what Amazon became, and ending all civilian bank debts to them through (actually somewhat realistic) hack magic. Kinda like turning Stuxnet back at the USA. It has lots of anarcho-liberal takes but at least they're trying something I guess. Actors and cinematography are really competent for something commercially made in the USA too.

But after they succeed at it turns out it's actually impossible to end capitalism, because some trans Chinese person is the actual the big bad capitalist in charge of the world and they do some Hack Wars or something. They introduce a Good FBI Agent™, which helps fight the Bad FBI Agents. Also this Chinese group (called literally "Dark Army") is presented as if they were responsible for the Trump election, which is just rich. Amazon buying it explains a lot actually.

Ty for giving me depression from the secondhand transphobia and sinophobia. 💀
