Hey I was watching Shogun for the third time and noticed this in Blackthorne's ship. Looks like a fondue fountain but with moving water. I was wondering if anyone knows what it is or what is called to learn about it. Got curious, you know. Thanks.

(my first guess would be compass – but normally more common to have the needle floating on water inside the casement rather than the whole casement floating on a bowl of water)

There was water driping from the ceiling and splashing making it look like it was moving. They were sailing through fog and probably couldn't use the stars to orientate themselves. Compass seems very likely, thanks cerement!
