The vegan place to discuss things.

Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals.

MODERATORS

I noticed we have a discord link but not a matrix or simplex link? Also the spreadsheet is done on google sheets, I just did like 5 seconds of research so I could be wrong but it looks like baserow is an open source alternative that has self hosting a free tier to use their hosting for small projects like the one linked in the server description.

I don't want to toot my own horn but there is already a direct democratic matrix space #vegan.en:tedomum.net run according to anarchist principles and I could have sworn it used to be listed in the server description here like a year ago

Anyway just a quick post to ask what are peoples thoughts on FOSS in the vegan movement because I think its essential to support the privacy needs of our comrades doing direct action

I am interested and like FOSS but am not committed to it like a cause. This website exists as an extension of the communities that exist on discord, primarily the Vegan Home Cooks. It is not viable for me to make everyone of the members move and I'm not going to push them, we all enjoy the company and community there. Most people are a part of multiple discords and as someone who works from home and has been chatting with this group for years now I don't want to fracture it by adding friction. I agree Discord has limitations and I don't align with them as an American corporation but it is what I got for now and it works well.

VHC and VTC the website are anarchist groups and the VTC discord is Left-Unity. I left that vegan matrix chat because of trolling and the fact that I don't align with the politics I saw discussed and presented there. There were racists, liberals and support for wars and states and I'm not willing to promote that with my website. Maybe I mistook and I am wrong, I am not always right about everything, but what I was reading the general chat there and for some reason that they are tolerant of bigots and libertarians so I removed the link to that server for that reason when I parted the room.

How have you found the weed communities?

Good luck to anyone out of the loop figuring this out

The weed matrices are top notch!

I'm sorry you saw that stuff on the matrix its not what I stand for

Yeah I know, I don't mean to be a jerk and I guess there is an inner sanctum that is better moderated. I might have joined at a weird time when being targeted w trolls

Yeah I heard there was a similar situation occurring right now with the discord Vegan Dating Lounge with subtle racism. Why do people have to suck so much.

I hope I'm not speaking out of turn, VTC really is a small group of buds hanging out online, not an organized activism group. Things have grown and changed over the years.

The group didn't create the PBC spreadsheet - it's just a resource we've passed around over the years, etc.

I’m supportive of FOSS as I use Organic Maps, Veganism Social, Linux Mint, Proton Services, Peertube, Firefox, and I’m also in the #vegan.en.general:tedomum.net group.
