It's called a pick-up but I've never seen anyone pick one up.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago

They’re used to go pick up groceries all the time.

English trying to not be the most janky language ever (thanks, french people) /s

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

The French are a major reason English is so janky.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

The french didn't even consider the Normans french anymore at the time. Then again, the french still will exile you for using french incorrectly.

So a pickup TRUCK is not a truck but a delivery van is?

[–] [email protected] 34 points 2 months ago

There is no van in this image.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 months ago

That's not even a dry van, it's a flatbed with lazy tarps

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

This is a van

[–] [email protected] 24 points 2 months ago

That’s a lorry.

Australian here, I'm happy for America to call pickup trucks "trucks". They're closer to a light commercial vehicle than they are to a ute.

Aside from all that, EN.US is their language. They can use it how they like. It's just a shame their culture is so dominant that it can't leave EN.AU alone

Thank You, if only you were real and not a figment of our imagination.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 2 months ago (1 children)

In Spanish these are called "camionetas", something like "truckettes".

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago

In Australia we call them "Utes" short for "utility vehicle" :)

The bottom is a pickup truck

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You are all wrong of course. This is a truck.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

Precisely. A forking truck.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago

Bottom is a pick-me-up car

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago

That's a Lastkraftwagen, not a truck

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago

I hate ego trucks, but literally what is your point here?that's not even one of the lifted asshole trucks its just what most people are forced to buy if they wanna transport shit reasonably, they don't sell pickups from the 90s anymore

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Yeah but 9 times out of 10, a van carries more, is secure and shelters whatever is being moved...

Why builders use these to carry tools is dumb since most of the timber arrives flat packed anyway on the back of a hiab

It's always fun to read about how I do my job wrong by someone who has no clue.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago

Classic! Just because ice got an opinion, doesn't mean it's valid.

You're absolutely right, I have no clue but can't understand why it's a thing.

An old ute with a huge tray, sure - but like you say, you do you...

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

everyday folks that have an acre or two of land aren't gonna spend a bunch of money on one of those huge trucks when they could get a pickup truck which is a car that can move their family AND can carry stuff without destroying the interior. They're useful for moving dead tree or bikes/luggage for a camping trip. There are legitimate uses for a pickup truck, even if the big modern ones are annoying to use.

I hate how modern trucks aren't built to be actually used like a truck :/

[–] [email protected] 0 points 2 months ago

I get you on those points - they had a legit job to do, now they're just who stroking devices (and honestly, that's valid - just don't do it in front of everyone else!)

That's cute honey, now rendition the criminals we tell you to and stay out of our military bases.
