Walter Rodney's How Europe Underdeveloped Africa was especially enlightening for me. His other works, along with Frantz Fanon's body of work, are essential reading imo

Neo-colonialism by ~~Fanon~~ Nkrumah is a great book! I really need to get around to reading the rest of his body of work.

Edit: I mixed up authors. I'd read Wretched of the Earth by Fanon. Neo-colonialism was Kwame Nkrumah who also did some great work.

John Smith - Imperialism in the 21st century. At least for imperialism in it's modern incarnation. Some other books:

  • Settlers
  • an indigenous peoples history of the US.
  • killing hope
  • the black jacobins
  • galeano - open veins of latin america
  • losurdo - liberalism, a counter history
