Looks like artwork for the cover of a novel.

Just what I was thinking! It could easily be Dirk Pitt.

Why is there a small rope hanging over the front of a ship?

That hull is surprisingly clean and lacks antifoul.

Did those two try operate an entire ship themselves?

I think I know why they sunk.

Nice joke there. This is from a mens pulp magazine, bursting with improbable scenarios, Nazis, communists, gangsters and exploitation. Despite the questionable subject matter I really enjoy some of the styles employed.

I'm so impressed by people who can paint waves so well. It's really easy to makes waves look terrible and people like this guy make it look easy.

I'm kicking myself because I can't remember the American artist that did such justice to the crashing waves of a coastline, I've posted his work but can't recall his name. A most difficult subject to get right. Ivan Aivasovsky is the only one who comes close to this style.

I don't know the name of the painting, but there's a really striking one of the Pacific Northwest coast in the Seattle Art museum if you ever get the chance to visit.
