Just wanted to share a thread for those who don't regularly venture out of the bear site. Can't cross-post since it's defederated. It's small but has some numbers about community counts, active users, etc and links to more info from https://lemmyverse.net/. Thought it was notable that Hexbear shows up no matter how you sort it.

OP image is community count sorted by active users in the last month.

Edit: sorted by comments

They're here because they couldn't handle reddit anymore. We're here because reddit couldn't handle us anymore.

Also they couldn't handle reddit anymore so they came here and immediatly started trying to recreate reddit.

They hate Reddit because Spez and Great Man Theory, not because of the actual structure and profit motive.

Also they hate reddit because of capitalism but don't realize that and consider themselves capitalists.

"I hate how this website has gone to shit, injected adds into everything, and censored everything that isn't squarely within the Overton window.

Time to pack up and go to a website coded and maintened by literal communists and call everybody who thinks the democrats suck tankies."

It isn’t big though. They just get kicked out of everywhere else they go for being disruptive assholes, so for every community there’s a hexbear duplicate

Duplicate with half the posts and a third of comments.

All of which are super politically charged

I like their indignity about politics being brought up ever, using that as an insult and mic drop like it wins the argument instantly. Such lib coworker ass energy.

    They are bots and cheaters

no they are just a large instance

nut uh it’s all just politics

    ???

Half the thread is "I have never interacted with Hexbear but they are literally the worst instance and I'm so surprised they exist"

The funniest part of that is all the people who think we're a bunch of uneducated kids who base our opinions on nothing, while fully admitting they have never interacted with us at all. Yes I see. Tell me more about making opinions on something you know nothing about bean-think

yeah the accusations that we were born after 9/11 just do not hit, all reddit-styled forums (especially the fediverse) are skewed toward olds

I would assume most Hexbears are at least in their mid 20s, if not early 30s. I know we even have some older folks. Hexbear is many things, but a community of edgy teens is not one of them.

Not that I have an account on Hexbear, but I spend a lot of time here (and enjoy it). I'm mid-forties, college degree, well-traveled (mostly North America, Europe and Asia). I have only grown more frustrated with liberals the older I get.

Damn I’m shocked how small hexbear is, if I’d had to guess I woulda thought you guys were like 30% of the fediverse. How does 98% of the shitposting and best reaction gifs come from 2% of the user base? Touch grass sometimes, damn lmao

Having an established userbase and actual community beyond the frame of "not reddit" will do that. Other instances are free to develop their own niches, Hexbear has just had a 4 year headstart on all of the Reddit refugees.

It's cause this community is only one of very few on the Internet so there's more concentrated time if we want this particular environment

Whereas the user base and culture of most other Lemmy instances can be found in many places

Julian Assange is a bootlicker and Kremlin stooge who sold us out to the American and Russian billionaires. The Mueller Report proved he was explicitly trying to get Treason Trump elected and working with Putin to push disinformation to that end.

Now who’s bringing up politics everywhere? Guess it’s ok when it’s MSNBC slop

A spectre hexbear-specter is haunting lemmy — the spectre of communism. All the powers of old Reddit have entered into a holy alliance to exorcise this spectre

Making up shit out of whole cloth lol

To remember 9/11 you have to be at least in your late 20s or early 30s. Tells you something about these nerds that they think so badly of literally all young people.

I remember 9/11 very well, and anyone who lived in the last 25 years knows what it is like to live in the post-9/11 hysteria.

Moving to a different country actually reaffirmed my leftist positions. Turns out the more of society you see, the more left you are on average. It decimates all illusions. This is commonly known anyway, and represented in every electoral map for fucking ever

It’s ironic to accuse leftists of being unaware of other countries. When I was (more of) a lib I never learned that much about other countries. Now I’m reading a lot more books and watching a lot more non-English content from other points of view.

Another person comparing traa a nazi bar:

This reads like someone telling me that the nazi bar is the only place to go because the nazi bar has people there all the time and the other bars are mostly empty.

Might as well just admit they've never been and have nothing to add to the conversation.

Hexbear (if you disagree with their politics) is basically like a white american from the deep south. They’re perfectly reasonable to talk to as long as it isn’t politics

How to tell on yourself as a lib in 2 sentences. The civility brains, when they say white American from the deep south they mean a racist. But if you say a racist is perfectly reasonable to talk to as long as it isn't political, that raises some flags. So they disguise the fact that they do associate with and find racists pleasant to be around as long as the topic of politics is avoided lest they be reminded that they're having a good time around a racist. It's just a white man from the American deep south, the implications are clear but not overtly stated so they can seem to have progressive stances but show a complete spinelessness , cowardice and willingness to go along with those who cause harm so long as it isn't openly shown to their face, and even then they'll politely change the topic. Also the equivocate us with racists for not being as tolerant of racists as they are. I'd argue the person who is willing to associate with racists and says it's totally fine and fun as long as the racism doesn't get brought up is more comparable to a full out blood and soil racist.

I've tried a bunch of fediverse Lemmy clones. My favorite was kbin.social from June 23. It got progressively worse as the socialist gays were defederated... Now it's hexbear and beehaw. It's funny how when you encourage people that believe in respect for one another to interact you get nice vibrant communities. It was also funny seeing the defederation of hexbear from the other side. How immediately after the quality of the community dropped significantly
