Is it possible?

Possible? Yea.

Personally I've went ahead to block all the big bots doing it. It adds a lot of submissions but with few to no comments, and there's little point responding to a Reddit-ported question here when the person who asked it didn't even ask it here.

If you want more content then make submissions and start conversations.

It seems like it might not be a great idea - there wouldn't be any opportunity for discussion and it could get confusing (like if someone has a question for the reddit OP).

I'd be more interested to know if there is some way to connect with what's going on on Mastodon (see @[email protected]). There are a ton of #fountainpens related posts happening over there. I have a vague understanding that lemmy and mastodon are both part of the fediverse and that there is some cross-talk possible, but I don't know the details. If there were a way to interface with those parts so that there can be back and forth, that would be pretty cool.

I'm also interested in how we can interact with Mastodon users. @penfount seems to be picking up traction, but I much prefer this format for discussion.

When I first joined this instance (only a few weeks ago), I recall seeing a post that was created from Mastodon. I think there are limitations, like Mastodon users won't see comments, or Lemmy users won't see replies, something like that. But I don't understand it well.

There's always the brute-force method of bringing over links or screenshots of Mastodon content whenever any of us feels like looking for them. But there is supposed to be a way to follow Mastodon from here, yeah.

Copying stuff over has the same drawback pointed out as copying posts from Reddit does: OP is not here and the discussion is fragmented.

For the best experience, our best bet is to be active here and try to nudge more people over. Maybe this weekend I'll round up my modest collection and post it here.

@coys25 @IldarA I'm replying to you from Mastodon right now. And I can also follow and post OC to the community although it's a little awkward.

I'm not sure if it's possible on your end to follow a mastodon account.

I can see the penfount account via lemmy (i.e. https://lemmy.world/u/[email protected] though probably ymmv depending on your instance) but don't see any way to interact and also don't see any posts. Mysteries of the fediverse I guess!

Do you mean have a post appear here whenever there is a new post in /r/fountainpens?

Thanks for confirming! Yes, it's possible - but I don't plan to look into. It for the exact reasons listed in other comments.

From Reddit? You can do it manually if you like.

I mean automatic crossposting to fill the community, I've seen others use a bot for this
