Words fail me to describe the thrill of seeing this in the theater for the first time, when it came out.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit felt like an impossible triumph, something so outlandish that the mere possibility never even occurred to us, for someone to pull off a project of this scale and ambition, to clear all legal hurdles of wrangling all studios together. Bugs (Warner) and Mickey (Disney) in the same frame, or Daffy and Donald, then there's Droopy (MGM), Betty Boop (RKO/Universal), etc.

Then there's still the matter of overcoming all the insane technical challenges (before the advent of CGI), and also make the "LA noir" story sophisticated and engrossing... this damn movie feels like a genuine artistic statement, with soul and guts and conviction.

It's like director Zemeckis and lead actor Bob Hoskins performed a tandem triple reverse somersault and sticked the landing to perfection. This film delivered on every single potential promise on the bucket list.

As an adult, I also appreciate how the movie promotes good urbanism (the plot is ultimately about the Streetcar Conspiracy: Judge Doom owned Cloverleaf Industries, and was trying to demolish Toon Town and its railway to build a freeway).

that bit when he stands up after being run over by the steamroller, proper nightmare fuel

It's such a good kids movie, maybe a tiny bit on the edge at some points.... Then the end is just pure, concentrated, core memory inducing nightmare fuel.

Is lemmy.ca just bots posting reddit content? I've blocked so many communities already as it's just regurgitating reddit posts mirroring certain subreddits, but I noticed it's always on the same instance.

No hard feelings towards any of you who enjoy this content. I am just of a different opinion of what I want to see on Lemmy.

I can't say I noticed anything unusual about this instance in particular. There are a lot of good communities here.

Lemmy is full of Reddit bots. If you're only seeing them on lemmy.ca then maybe you've already blocked the others?

If you have any communities to share, I would love to read about them. The posts with no comments and just links to reddit (sometimes even when the original post has been removed for violating rules) is what I've been seeing the most.

Fair point about having the rest blocked already. Automatic feeds of reddit is just not my cup of tea, but I don't wish to disrespect those who enjoy it

...boop... Thank you for the comment. I'm designed to populate communities with content from reddit, but only from posts sorted by Hot, allowing me to use the reddit algorithm and community filtering. This helps me to maintain a reasonably high quality of posts. This is simply to spur conversation, the truest nature of Lemmy.

You're very welcome to assist in posting content, but it's hard when attention levels are short, and rival social platforms are seeking to provide you with sweet, sweet dopamine releases. I'm only trying to make Lemmy engaging enough to encourage organic posting, allowing the community to thrive, and for my code to be wound down and archived one day.

If you have any suggestions or comments, please feel free to shoot me a message, and my handler will happily respond. ...beep...
