[No hobo] the verse in Whitesnake's #1 hit "Here I Go Again" was originally sung as "like a hobo I was born to walk alone" in the '82 version. The band changed it to "drifter" in the 1987 re-recording (lemmy.world)

The 1982 video features the band performing the song onstage, with drummer Cozy Powell sitting in for Ian Paice, who originally played on the track. This version is more bluesy, raw and understated than the later versions and includes the line “like a hobo I was born to walk alone," which was later replaced by “like a drifter …” because Coverdale was worried that the word “hobo” could be misheard as “homo."

Oh, the joys of listening to music before lyric sites were common! TIL it’s “like a drifter I was born to walk alone” and not “like a twister I was born to walk alone”. I still kind of like my version better.

Good. I think "drifter" works much better anyway. I just listened to the 1982 version and "hobo" is decidedly worse.
