MODERATORS

As a community, we should all abandon centralized servers and migrate to decentralized solutions. I'd support any decentralized system supporting privacy and anonymity, something that asks no personally identifying information such as phone number or email address. Something like Bastyon or Brighteon.io . Some attributes are below:

  • This solution is directly on a blockchain, has no corporation behind it, much like Monero.
  • Plus it's got many of the features that Twitter or Lemmy has, we can set up private or public groups and memberships.
  • It supports direct, private messaging, as well as voice and video chat.
  • No email address or phone number is required, so you can remain as anonymous as you choose.
  • There's already a strong group of liberty-minded individuals. While they aren't all crypto-savvy, they are predisposed to solutions benefiting privacy.
  • Adequate settings to block offensive speech, only controlled by the individual, so you can limit what YOU see, but not what I see.
  • Built-in design is the requirement for small amounts of PKOIN, the coin that powers the blockchain.

This last bullet about requiring PKOIN has the effect of reducing spammers and trolls, but does not eliminate them entirely. While those desiring to have a megaphone and upload large amounts of data will have to pay, the average user posting photos, articles, and links to external sources normally have no cost. I've never needed to purchase PKOIN and have steadily posted links to articles of interest repeatedly since starting to use the platform nearly a year ago.

I would volunteer to help set up any groups that the community wants to duplicate over there. Please contact me if there's anything I can do to assist in this migration should it occur.

Lemmy comes second to Reddit with userbase and have better third party clients. I would stick with Monero.town

Bastyon already has ~1 million users and it is not a replacement for lemmy, it is more of a twitter style social media platform with video.

Why Bastyon over Mastodon or nostr?

Bastyon has monetization built in.

It has video hosting capability.

Content moderation performed by users not node owners, clear rules defined node operators cannot arbitrarily ban users.

Encrypted private chat.

Not many BTC maxi’s, much more users.

Easy to use apps available and usable in browser.

Not reliant on DNS

A lot of these pros are either not actually needed, or already in Lemmy. I don't see a problem with making a Monero community on Bastyon, but for me, the fact I can see what the Monero community is up to from Lemmy.ml or Mastodon is all I need (and something Bastyon does not provide)

problems:

  • inherits full graph anal from BTC: but instead of money your complete private life is profiled

  • dev tax of 5% (concealed in docs): this is a scam if the token rises in value

If you want a more decentralized system + with strong privacy and anonymity, we should use nostr communities instead where anyone can create throaway npubs and you can access it from any nostr website, not being stuck to a single domain:

Maybe something like Stacker News but with nostr and piconeros. I'm ok of the freedom of speech aspect of nostr but the Bitcoin Maxi gatekeeping turns me off. Can we fork or clone from SN?

There is only one Nostr self-custody key solution I'm aware of, and only 1 guy makes commits to it, and only about once per month.

Nostr keys are almost 100% custodial.

y wouldnt we just use nostr?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 months ago

Do you know a way for me to use NOSTR without using a lightning wallet for verification?

I read the Bastyon FAQ, and it actually looks really interesting due to this...

> "Moderators for content are chosen randomly using a lottery on the blockchain to avoid any kind of mob rule."

Mastodon sucks because Marxists brigade Reality off the instances. Nostr sucks because the battle to keep out CSAM is endless.

I will participate this Fall when I have more time, just to see how this "Moderation by Lottery" experiment works out. 🙂

yes, interesting concept, hope it works to keep the place somewhat clean.

Make your account so it builds up reputation over time then your votes have more weight, I believe.

Requirements for running a full node:

• Your computer has at least 50 GB empty space on your SSD

• Your computer has at least 2 GB free RAM

• Your internet speed is at least 10 Mb/sec

Sounds reasonable. Anybody here to do this ?

I started one up just to play around and it is still syncing after days and is it already @ 100GB, so they need to update their docs.
