Hey there. I thought, my experience might be useful for somebody.

I have a smart TV, this doesn't allow any sideloading but has a YouTube app installed on it. For a long time I couldn't find a proper way to get rid of the ads. Sure, you can buy a premium but that's not interesting and quite pricey.

The solution turned out to be less technical than I thought. I remembered that when I lived in a third world country I never saw an ad. So I spun on a docker container with a VPN client going through one of those countries and an HTTP proxy, then I set the said proxy to be used by the TV and voila! Aparently, if nobody targets a country, there is no ads in it 😁

On my VPN provider (Mullvad) there is currently only one country that is suitable for this solution, namely Albania. There used to be also Moldova but there is no more, and also Moldova now has ads too.
