After DarkSky buy out, and Apple integrating the data source into their own feed (available to developers under WeatherKit ), I haven’t found the need for other weather apps, as the default one offered everything I needed (weather condition, temperature, and air quality forecast). Aside from a quirky attitude, what else do I get with something like CARROT that the default doesn’t offer?

CARROT’s big premium selling point is letting you pick which weather data provider the app references. Darksky/Weatherkit went through a perceived slump after their acquisition, so folks turned to sites like https://www.forecastadvisor.com/ to figure out who was providing the most accurate data in their region.

Other than that, it offers up a few more detailed views, push notifications, and other UI tweaks. They’re one of those companies that tries jumping onboard with things like Apple Watch apps or home screen widgets ASAP.

You probably don’t need CARROT, but if you don’t like the stock Weather app, CARROT probably has something for you.

It’s one guy, Brian, not a company haha. Kind of like Apollo. I’ve followed him since his first app Carrot To-Do which shamed you into completing tasks. Still wish he’d update that one, it was fun.

Haha, oh wow, I had somehow missed that. Brian’s done great work with Carrot.

More control over what data is highlighted as the primary metrics at the top of the report (or on widgets).

Where I live the actual temperature and "feels like" temperature are often really far apart. Apps like Carrot can be configured to show "feels like" as the main temperature, but Apple only shows it if you scroll down all the way down past a bunch nearly useless stats like the sunset time (spoiler, it will be the same as yesterday) and how the current temperature compares to the historical average.

Also, I live near the beach and want to know the tides. That's almost more important than the temperature.
