Some isopropyl alcohol would probably do the trick. If that doesn't work you might try something like Goo Gone if you can determine that it won't damage the mousepad.

Is it a hard plastic mouse pad or a soft fabric mouse pad
Fabric on foamy rubbery backing. It’s about 30 years old, if that suggests a certain style.
