Where I'm from you can already set your banking app as the default payment app and not use google pay.
I believe PayPal can do it IIRC?
Can PayPal act as a traditional debit card though? I thought it was only for online or p2p payments
Apparently it can. I think I tried it once when they had a promotion but hard to remember.
Wait, is that not already an option? My phone came with Samsung Wallet as the default, but when I downloaded Google Pay (or whatever it's called now after 4 name changes) it asked me which one to use and I've never seem Samsung Wallet again.
Google Wallet > Android Pay > Google Pay > GPay > Google Wallet
