MODERATORS

It's quite sad to watch unfold, but the admin of rammy has been basically MIA all month and exploding-heads users and admin (which we have been de-federated from for a while) has taken notice and has decided to invade and set up shop there to just generally push their stuff into the federation. Entire front page is a hate fest against LGBT people and just general foul bigotry. Hopefully the rammy admin comes back and cleans stuff up, and then we can hopefully re-federate (if they want to.)

Just wanted to give a heads up in case anyone was curious why another instance was added to the blocked server list :/

Unfortunately if people are going to allow hate groups to invade there instance defederate is the only way to deal with it

Fwiw it's cool that there is even a way to deal with it as individual communities unlike Reddit which would have to have site admin intervention

And that intervention would probably take a while to happen, tbh. I still think defederation should be the absolute last resort, but I've read mod tools are still not on the level to adequately deal with this sort of stuff.

Historically the admins would just look the other way until Reddit started getting negative press over it. If not for the negative attention those subs brought to the site Spez would probably still be hosting jailbait, altright, and incels.

A site admin did intervene. What do you mean?

This just further illustrates the importance of active and competent moderation.

This is pretty much what defecation is for.

This is the ultimate typo. Thank you, phone autocorrect. I'm leaving it.

It was meant to be

Agreed. When fascists pop up, shit on them.

And I read that as poop up...

Pushing out the shit

If the admin is really MIA I doubt it'll last long. That being said, this is the system working. Defederate away.

I love that there's a way to deal with shitbrained bigots on lemmy. It sucks entire servers get brigades, but it's fucking awesome that they can be blocked. And unlike with the other site, if a popular sub was taken over, that name was lost. Now you can just remake [email protected] and I have never been happier to be off reddit. :)

Bigotry has no place on a pro sexuality instance. This was the right choice.

Just remember you horny fuckers, they will continue to plead to the point that they should just be ignored and not restricted because of [Insert slippery slope falacy here]

Don’t let smooth brains smooth your brain over too - we live in a beautiful reality full of possibilities and literal infinite possibilities for how to do things. Just because something bad is possible to happen doesn’t mean the idea should be abandoned altogether.

That’s lazy and wastes time which is exactly what trolls want - to be bought more time
