Whether you take 1000 AUD to Japan and convert to Yen, or covert 1000 AUD here to USD and then convert that in Japan to Yen, you will end up with the same amount (barring any USD/AUD fluctuations while you travel).

International currency markets are so interlinked that arbitrage opportunities are few and far between.

FWIW, I actually liked the AUD-JPY conversion rate when I went there because it made mental conversion super simple: ¥1000 ~= $10 AUD; their prices are basically just in cents!

Funnily enough, I just recently saw a video about Perovskite solar panels: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=w2r9_0NxTW8

First time learning about them, but they do seemingly like a great solution once they come into maturity over the next decade. At that point, we could be at only needing ~6% of the Outback to power the world!

I didn’t propose it as a viable solution, but more-so as a thought experiment or proof of concept.

A proper implementation would be pretty decentralised to minimise transmission loss where possible, and complemented with whatever analogue energy storage system makes sense locally (hydro dams/kinetic/molten salt/lithium/sodium batteries etc.).

Solar is also not always the solution for colder climates, but in those places we can opt for geothermal or wind sources where feasible, otherwise transmit surplus energy from warmer climates as an absolute last resort.

Apparently, covering ~12% of the Australian Outback with solar panels would generate enough electricity to meet 100% of global energy (electricity, heating, transport) needs?!

Trying to get as many war crimes committed as possible ahead of the midterms?

Not sure if anyone else remembers this cartoon from their childhoods; sometimes it feels like it may have all just been a bit of a fever dream given how unhinged the English dub was at times!

This trailer gave me big, warm nostalgic vibes, and it seems like it could look/play somewhat like Cuphead perhaps? I’m cautiously hyped.

What are other obtuse, forgotten media properties that you think are overdue for revival? I’ll start the ball rolling with Tekkaman/Technoman Blade

While the win is good, the fact that it’s still a PEGI 12 game while FIFA is a PEGI 3 shows what an absolute joke the whole process is.

Australia had to deal with similar levels of bullshit for way too long before our ratings board finally capitulated to common sense and introduced an R18 rating (for games like The Last of Us, not even XXX content!).

We have an endemic gambling problem too, so I don’t foresee much common sense coming out of that mob anytime soon - either.

Some analysts are morons. The reason the Wii U failed was because it wasn’t clear that it was a successor console, and not just a weird add-on.

People have been conditioned to understand numerical console increases for over two decades now thanks to the PlayStation.

Edit: As an aside, are there any console manufacturers besides Sony who have had sequential model numbers consistently? I’ve been mulling this under the last couple of hours and nothing comes to mind!

800,000 people fell for that scam? Fuck me, that’s a lot of stupidity..

It’s because the measure needed 60% to pass, and “only” managed 57.4%..

I recently visited China, to meet my wife’s extended family.

Let me tell you, the sheer amount of single-use plastics that are consumed by any individual throughout a regular day in a metropolitan environment, is absolutely and mind-numbingly depressing.

Given that there are 1.3b people there, and that no matter how much we in the US/AU/EU reduce/reuse/recycle - we will never be able to truly offset that sheer amount of plastic pollution produced.

Now I’m not saying this to be a doomer, but more-so to say that individuals can’t enact sufficient change to save this planet, we need Government and corporate incentives to shift towards sustainable alternatives, and punitive policies to disincentivise plastic production globally.
