That "abandoned, decaying cobblestone path" is fake, but it is neglected. The stones are fake are there is clearly an artificial underlay, like the whole path was delivered in a roll and they laid it all the way down to the crick.

Osama Bin Laden's brother, Khalil bin Laden, bought this 1920s mansion a few miles from Disney World in 1980. Shortly after 9/11 his family caught a private jet out of the country and the property has gone through a few owners (and a number of vandals) since then, and was recently torn down. The old Madrid Burgos line had a collapsed tunnel near Somosierra.

When a landslide caused the derailment of the train between Gumiel de Izán and Fontioso in 2010, ADIF, the state-owned railway infrastructure company in Spain had a very straight solution: Abandon the Somosierra tunnel all together and replace it with a bus service.

The decision makers at ADIF thought, after all, there were not many passengers using the train service. Only 6 at the time of the collapse. So there was this bus which took passengers from the departure station and stopping at every railway station until the destination station.

This was the first steam-powered mill in Romania, built in 1853. At the time it opened, peasants were horrified by it and did not want to bring their grains there, because they were afraid that the devil would burn them. That was until winter, when every river froze, and they couldn't get their grains anywhere else.

Once a glamorous destination that attracted the likes of Elizabeth Taylor and Abba, the Cypriot resort of Varosha was abandoned on 14 August 1974 when Turkey invaded. For 50 years, the town has been deserted, but in 2020 it was opened up to tourists. 

When I returned from my walk, the license plate had been removed.
