A discussion in the weekly discussion thread prompted me to post this one today. I panel lined, used the included sticker decals (eww), and sprayed a matte topcoat.

I prefer the muted colors of the Spec II, but I'm not a big fan of the bright red/blue/yellow on Gramps and other hero Gundams. I'm glad both exist, but I kinda wish one of them were a P-Bandai thing instead of taking up a retail release.

I built RG Force Impulse Spec II, was a good build, though a bit annoying that Bandai decided to release a minor recolor as its own retail kit.

Sounds cool. I recently ordered a metal frame for my Heavyarms Custom, so I'm interested to see how that will turn out.

I'm still working on my PG Strike Rouge. I wanted to wrap it up this weekend, but that won't be happening. I need to finish applying decals, spray the final top coat, then final assembly. This is by far my most involved project, and I am ready for it to be over so I can move on to the next thing.

My local anime shop had a build day yesterday, so I brought one of the kits that will be part of my GBWC entry. I keep forgetting HG kits are a double-edged sword when it comes to customizing. They're simpler, but usually require more work because of less part separation.

The kit isn't undergated, so they're there. I used a silver paint pen to hide some of the more prominent ones.

This one is just a straight build, nothing extra done to it. It was pricy for a MG and a Gundam Base exclusive, but I love the Freedom, so I had to get it.

It's a copypasta.

I've been kinda tempted by this one in the past. I like the mecha-animals.

Sounds like Farenheit 451.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

It does. I was just throwing the idea out there.

I took pics of several of my older builds, so I have content to post for the next week or so. Also, my current project will hopefully be finished sometime this weekend, so there will be that.

On a side note, I would like to see a weekly discussion thread stickied in this community. It would be nice to have a place to post quick questions or talk about builds, etc, and refreshing it weekly shows that at least someone is looking at it. Just a thought.

I use Tamiya now, which works well. I've seen others say 3M is good, too.

I learned quite a bit after painting my first project, and this one ended up turning out much better. The main lessons were to paint in layers and the masking tape from Hobby Lobby sucks. I painted everything but the white armor.

I've been saving most of my box tops since shortly after starting this hobby. The artwork on them is nice and I figured I could do something with them sooner or later. Someone on reddit posted something similar a while back and gave me this idea. I didn't feel like working on my current project last night, so I made this instead.

The Steam controller was definitely interesting. I bought two, one shortly after they released, and another when they were clearing them out. I never could get the hang of using the trackpad in place of an analog stick, though, and eventually bought an Xbox controller to game with on the pc. I still use one of them with my Steam Link when I stream tv shows from my pc to the tv.

This is the SD 00 Gundam solid clear version, and my first attempt at painting. It looks like ass, but I keep it on the top shelf of my main display case to remind myself of where I started. I learned a lot of lessons from this project, like SD kits don't make good painting candidates unless you want to do a lot of masking, and the masking tape from Hobby Lobby sucks. I used spray cans and a green metallic paint marker.

I have finished painting all the parts, and have begun panel lining. I decided to assemble the beam rifle temporarily to see how it looked painted up.

The stand is also completed. I treated the stand as its own side project that I was working on alongside the Gundam from time to time. I painted it mostly with spray cans, since the pieces are larger. My black spray can ran out halfway through, so I had to finish up with the airbrush.

This is one of my favorite projects I've done. I like Aerial and Full Armor MSs, so decided to make my own. I used HG Aerial Rebuild as the base, and parts from HG Aerial, HG Strike Freedom, parts from various 30MM kits, and MSG Composite Plate unit. This build involved quite a bit of custom work.

The inner frame is completed and painted. I am about 1/3 finished with painting the armor pieces.

This is the 30MF Liber Knight with the Holy Knight upgrade. I painted the armor pieces and blue parts, panel lined, and applied a gloss topcoat. These guys are highly articulate and fun to play around with.

Nu ver.ka (lemmy.zip)

This is one of the last kits I built before I got an airbrush. I don't think it really shows in the pic, but I applied a craptastic topcoat that had a bit of frosting. I really liked how this one came with a custom stand for displaying the fin funnels. I'd really like to see all of the higher-end kits (ver.ka, MGEX, PG) come with at least a basic stand, if not something bespoke. I'd like to get another of this kit and paint it up nicely, buuuut... maybe some day down the road.

I wasn't happy with my existing lighting setup, so I got some poster board and some LED lights to improve my shots. I grabbed a few built models off the shelf for some test photos. I would appreciate any feedback as I am a noob photographer.
