~~FYI, there’s a new proposal for IPv8 to address the issues with ipv6.~~

~~The main benefit seems to be that it is a superset of IPv4, so all existing addresses remain valid.~~

~~It also has some questionable ‘enhancements’ like requiring DNS records in order to allow routing.~~

For very small values of “famous”.

One of the ends of the handle came loose.

It’s not loose anymore.

Not sure if this is common knowledge or not, but it took me far too long to figure out. So posting in case it helps others.

Old trek dual sport with 8 speed Shimano Acera would skip one gear near the middle of the range, and be very noisy on those cogs.

I assumed I had a bent hanger… nope. Tried numerous other things to figure out what I had done to cause this.

Turned out to be the shift cable was attached on the wrong side of the cable clamp post, causing too sharp an angle for the cable and ever so slightly changing the pull ratio.

The only way I figured it out was that I remembered some obscure web page that talked about doing this on purpose as a hack to get incompatible shifter and derailleur to work together.

HTH someone.

After seeing biltzen’s post, i figured I’d share mine.

Not much ‘mod’ here. Tried to keep things near the same period. I’m the sole owner of this bike. It sat in my garage for 20+ years until one day the bug bit me and I just started working on it.

The biggest change was to have it powder coated. I never liked the original paint much. Had the logos recreated as water slide decals. Kept the original headset badge.

I drilled and rivnutted the bottle cage mounts. That was a bit scary.

At one point i had put indexed shifters(brifters) on it, but went back to friction. It just fits better.

I’ve seen some expensive looking setups in the background of some yt videos. But I threw this together with a pack of S-hooks and 2 wire baskets from Amazon.

FWIW - This was the inspiration, but wayy too expensive for a wooden dowel and some printed plastic parts, imo. https://tons.bike/en-us/collections/tons-gear-racks

Voted number one... (lemmy.world)

There's a toilet paper ad where they claim they were voted number one product of the year.

Shouldn't they prefer to be number two?
