Hello guys, I wanted to announced that I finally released my demo for The Milgram Experiment. One of the inspirations of the game is the book Obedience to Authority by the same scientist. Other big inspirations are Papers, Please; Pools; Sublimnal and the show Severance.

I grew up and still live in Eastern Europe and here we have experience and past with authority and authoritarianism. I mean look at our oppressive architecture: photo (imgur link) I took yesterday while walking my dog. I guess the subject has always interested me... "While do good people follow evil orders?"

The game tests if you obey orders and how does your moral compass work (if at all). I invite you try it and give me feedback. Hope you love it!

Hey everyone! The time has finally come to do a public playtest of my game. I know you guys love these sorts of games and would love your feedback. To do so, simply go to the Steam Page and click Request Access. You will be notified when the game is up (still putting the finishing touches). What do you think about the concept of the game and presentation?

Are you tired of new games coming out broken? Well now is your chance to criticize someone else's game for free! hah I just finished the first playable version of my game and really need unbiased people to try it and give me their opinions and advice. As for the game - it's called The Milgram Experiment. Leave a comment or DM me so we can set something up!

Hello, something that has been bothering me of late is how exactly to I know if a game idea is going to be good before making the full game or even the demo. In short I've released three games before and the last one of them was a comedy narrative game kind of like The Stanley Parable. I really like the genre and before moving on from it, I wanted to make another narrative game, but this time with a dark twist.

Reading random stuff on the internet, I stumbled upon one of the most controversial experiments in history - The Milgram Experiment (basically innocent people were asked to torture another person to see if they will obey). I've always been interested in ethics and moral choices in games and stuff like The Trolley Problem, so I decided to make a game out all of these themes where the psychological horror comes from the fact that you are the one that gets to face moral dilemmas and decide if and how you should kill a subject. All of your choices during testing have an impact on the ending and I have planned 8 different endings. At the start of the game it's unclear who or why is making you do this, but over the course of the game you will get little bits of information that help you piece the story.

So that is kind of my elevator pitch of the game. First question is - does this sound compelling to you? Would you yourself play something like that or watch a streamer play it? Second question is how do I validate if this idea is good and worth pursuing? Currently around 20% of the game is complete and around 80% of the demo. I do have a Steam page of the game that has garnered around 800 wishlists and am holding off on official announcement trailer until I have more good footage. Do I talk to friends? Do I ask more people on forums? Do I need something playable that I need to put in front of people? How should I approach this?

Thank you for reading this, any comment or idea is appreciated!

Reddit mods should learn a thing or two from you : )

"Posting about a game on game related sub? HOW DARE YOU?"

Well, I post every few months when I have something new and interesting to show. This community in general has been very friendly and like being part of it.

The author is on BlueSky and thanked him and he responded. :)

For context : have no idea how they found about it, but I love that they are illuminating indie games. And VICE.com has 12 million monthly readers. This is insane for me , because for a long time I was struggling for the game to be noticed. (If you want to follow how development of the game is going, a simple wishlist on Steam will be well appreciated.

Original post here I asked this wonderful community to help me out and select neck tie or bow tie version. This little plush duckie in parts is inspired by The Companion Cube in Portal. The idea is that the player should steal it from The Narrator of my and form an emotional attachment to i. Do you like the new design? : )

Also if you want to support small indie devs like me and like narrative games like Title Pending and The Stanley Parable, please consider a wishlist for Do Not Press The Button (Or You'll Delete The Multiverse)

Thank you for participating in its development!

So I'm re-doing some of my Do Not Press The Button (Or You'll Delete The Multiverse) character models and I have this duck that is kind of inspired by the Companion Cube in Portal. I want to make it as appealing as possible so the players will attach to it and carry it around with them. Which looks better! I'm more partial to the neck tie (because I like wearing them) but what do you guys think?

(If you want to follow how development of the game is going, a simple wishlist on Steam will be well appreciated STEAM )

Hey today I wanted to show something amazing from the Stanley Parable-inspired game I'm developing. Might be a long read so bare with me: at the end of my demo The Narrator is annoyed that the player presses The Button (in a game called Do Not Press The Button)! So he demands the player to send a 500 word essay on why they shouldn't press it. I put this line in as a joke and didn't expect to get anything, but funnily enough I've gotten so much essays which you can see here in the video and I decided as an Easter Egg to put a secret room in the FULL GAME where people can actually read all of essays that was sent and I'm sure there are a lot of Lemmy people that have sent one. In the video you can see small example of what people have written! It's just awesome and makes me smile!

P.S. If you want to support my work and encourage development a simple wishlist of the game on Steam will make my day!

P.S. It was so funny to see someone playing the demo on their Stream and after they finished it, they opened a text file and started writing the essay, and you see new viewers coming in, expecting gameplay or something, and she is like "Oh, I'm doing my homework that this game gave me" :D

Love me straightforward films like that. Just good old fashioned bug killing, no fancy satire or any kinda of stuff like that

Hello guys, I’ve noticed a lot of people here are hungry for more games like the Stanley Parable. After playing the O.G. game and the Deluxe edition I’ve found myself wanting more of this. More of these meta, narrator led, weird humour games! I started work on my called Do Not Press The Button (To Delete The Multiverse). You can check it on Steam and give a wishlist if you want to encourage the development.

Anyway the other day I'm randomly checking Steam Most Wishlisted games and DNPTB is on there! How wild is that?

[-] Road_Warrior_10@lemmy.world 32 points 2 years ago

Arhgh missed that! Thank you so much!

If you want to support me, a wishlist of my current game will mean the world to me: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2336120/Do_Not_Press_The_Button_To_Delete_The_Multiverse/

But please don't spend money on my previous games, I recognize that they aren't that good I don't want to burden anyone financially with them (I loved every minute of making them, but I was still a noob back then).

Yes, their cut is 30% which is a lot, but they are pretty much the only big platform out there. Epic games has been trying to get in the game but so far they are not close. Their cut is 15%.

[-] Road_Warrior_10@lemmy.world 39 points 2 years ago

I think they keep your money until reach the threshold. Steam aren't scummy so I'm pretty sure there is no shady stuff going on with your money.

For context: I make indie games and have released two so far and I'm currently working on the third one which is weird as fuck. So the way that Steam works is, they don't send you money anytime you make a sale, but they send all of it at the end of every month. Now September is almost over and I got an e-mail titled "Steam Payment Notification" and I get all hyped up. I open it and read it that the Payment Notification is actually that there is no Payment since I didn't make $100 in sales. Way to hype me up and bring me down, Steam.

Oh, man... sorry it's coming off like that. Since it's called the Humorless Toaster, the main inspiration is Ron Swanson. At least that's what I was going for...
