NTFS, fat32, exfat, could I theoretically create my own filesystem? If so would my computer even be able to work with most files or connect to other devices?

Say hypothetically a really rich billionaire wants to donate/invest a lot of money to/in you what would be the best non crypto option to get that money since PayPal most bank accounts for that matter would stop and question you on it and probably wouldn't believe it's a donation?

So ive been working with someone a couple of years now, we work in sales.

During their first 6 months or so at the company they got quite friendly with me from their first few weeks of working. We were in different teams but would chat quite a bit and have lunch every now and then. Around the 6-8 month mark they mentioned some issues with their team and how they didnt really feel included in their team. I felt terrible and said how maybe they would be a better fit with my team, i spoke with my manager and after a few weeks they moved teams. This brought us a bit closer and we would talk much more and became quite good friends. Around the 1 year mark we got a new manager, this coworker wasnt happy losing the previous manager and there was some friction between them and the new manager. They ended up having a fairly big altercation and i stepped up and tried to cool the whole thing down, the manager told me that HR had recommended he fire the coworker. I advised against it, being the manager was a bit newer it wouldnt look great and the coworker had a good standing with the rest of the sales team.

Things moved past that point and fast forward almost a year, it was the coworkers birthday. Because we had become good friends, i offered to take them out for dinner along with my fiancé, we had a pretty good night the three of us, i paid for dinner and we had a few laughs together and got some desert after. The next week at work, we were fine as normal, however at the end of the week, the coworker had stopped responding to my messages. I thought maybe they had possibly had a bad week and left it at that, on the weekend they said they would speak to me in the office.

That next week in the office, we had a chat in a meeting room, they said to me that the night we went out for dinner they had reflected on it and were upset that my fiancé and I hadnt said anything nice about them that night, I was obviously very confused and wasnt sure what to even say.

Then the coworker mentioned that they hadnt appreciated my comments at work, as id been asking them about their walks into work, when i explained that I was asking because they live over 50 minutes walking distance, I was asking because i was genuinely curious, that and also one week the coworker lied and said they twisted their ankle on the way to work and took 3 days off. They said that I was always asking them about their walking into work because they are fat and I must think they need to lose weight.

To top this whole conversation off, they then said that they were relieved they had managed to have an emergency appointment with their psychologist, had they not had this, they fear they would of been suicidal from how they felt about everything.

Needless to say I didnt say too much as i didnt want to make the whole situation any worse.

Since this all happened I've avoided the coworker as much as possible. Ive spoken with my manager and even the director about all of this.

The director who was their manager at the time explained to me that they were actually lining up to performance manage the coworker and was possibly wanting to fire them, however they changed teams so this wasn't acted on.

I'm looking back at all of this now and realising this coworker used me as I was a more senior staff member, they manipulated me into protecting them from managers and help cover up some of their incompetence. I feel so betrayed.

My question is, how would you handle someone like this going forward? I honestly wish their was something I could do to get them fired!

Apologies for the long post.

Or is this just one of those things you're not supposed to think too hard about?

(Edit) lmao, people who've never heard this mantra whenever you say that maybe there should be less suffering in the world... I envy you.

I was wondering if industrial tourism is a real thing or just another one of my million weird obsessions. Ddg searched and it's a real thing. It's got a Wikipedia page and everything.

I would love to go to places and see how things are made. Modern Marvels is my favorite show (yes, I'm old) and also how it's made.

Anyone done something like this? How was your experience? How did you set it up?

I resigned a few months ago from my first post-graduation position as a lawyer in a major public institution where I had previously interned. When I arrived at the job, I started helping senior-lawyers as my main task. After an atypical re-shuffle, I —still the newest hire— was handed an entire senior-level portfolio while also being required to keep assisting every colleague in the unit. My deputy head then began sending me (and only me) on out-of-state trips without coverage, leaving my own files untouched. Workdays stretched past twelve hours as unfinished tasks from others were routinely left on my desk. When I flagged the overload, he blamed my competence; when I took certified medical leave, he publicly threatened to replace me. For all the above, I then began to take my time, if I was already the last to leave, I started to clear myself talking to my colleagues time to time, to go out and smoke a couple of times and arrive 10 or 15 minutes later than usual (also taking into account that the official entry time was at 8 and my boss could arrive until 10, then he made us arrive at 10 and, therefore, leave later), but always finishing my job; things that did not seem to my boss and he started complaining about them. Exit negotiations turned hostile, and I ultimately chose health and dignity over an unsustainable role.

Now, after a couple of months, I need the job back because of economic and personal problems. I would not be with the same boss, but in order to get the job back, I would have to talk to my former boss first, because she will be asked if my job was good while I worked with her and if she had any problems with me.

Any recommendations to talk to her?

⬆️ UPDATE: I talked to my former boss and she told me that she's gonna be honest when the boss ask to her about me. She told me the positive and the negative comments that she has about me and I think I have more positive comments than negative. Also, I think that the negative ones are not that bad.

  1. They want $30 a month, a steep increase over what consumers already pay.

  2. ESPN is paying the WWE $200m more than what NBC gives them, FOR LESS, this deal dosen’t include WWE’s achieved library (which has serious value)

  3. Both TKO and ESPN are dealing with sexual harassment/assault cases right now.

  4. The WWE product isn’t necessarily hot right now, and they continue to prove gouge their loyal fans.

Am I missing something here, but this sounds like an incoming disaster of a deal, especially for ESPN.

Like I'd imagine there's gonna be a lot of rain over time if I want this time capsule to last like idk 10 years? 30 years?

Is there like a box so tough its indestructible?

Can animals dig it up if I bury it?

How deep do it bury it?

Is the earth's magnetism gonna affect the hard drive? (Or is there a better medium?)

Like I want this to be like very low budget, I don't have millions to build an actual timecapsule like some organizations have done. Is there some cheap box that's waterproof to protect a hard drive from damage for like 30 years buried in the ground?

I know that at some point in the distant past when trees fell. There is no microbes or anything to decompose that they just laid there. Then after a period time microbes and other things were able to break down the trees. Which at some point that became coal.

What I’m curious about Is that the only time that coal was able to be created? That was worded poorly. What I’m curious of is that group of trees that fell over during that period of time is that the only trees that was to create coal. Or is this an ongoing process?

In other words, the trees that fall today will be at some point become coal?

Seems contrary to the whole lemmyverse/fediverse model, doesn't it?

Okay, I get it. Incidentally, strict initial approvals on smaller instances don't seem annoying at all now, after reading these comments.

Thanks everyone!

edit: at the same time, in the same conflict.

I remember reading a few years ago about a conflict in (I want to say) 1980's Latin America where this occurred; however I can't find anything about this with current online search tools. Did I hallucinate this or did this actually, and if so what groups?

Ive always wanted to make videos for something such as youtube but ive also been told to always start small. Most of my ideas require a team of sorts which i do not have. Im wondering what types of videos are considered easy to make and learn from that are not slop?

Even the earliest spell checkers were better! I write a lot on here to keep my sanity and several times a day I'm sure my spelling is correct but it gets flagged. About 6 of 7 times, I was right to begin with. Sigh. "Add to Dictionary"

Hadn't been on Firefox for well over a decade and the Chrome engine turning to crap brought me home. Is there something I should add to fix this? Chrome was nearly flawless, as is every word processor out there. Just can't get my head around how awful Firefox is at spell check, feel I must must be doing something wrong.

Hear me out, measles can cause immune system amnesia. People with autoimmune disorders have immune systems that want to kill them. What if we use the immune system amnesia property of measles to reset the immune system of people suffering with autoimmune disorders? Maybe we could do some crispr on the measles virus to make it not as dangerous or something like that first though.
