I often see these words used interchangeably, though as I understand it there is a difference between the two ideologies, no?

Like are there people in the world who don't know who Ariana Grande or The Weekend are?

I remember hearing that, many years ago, Detroit went bankrupt. Well, how's it doing now? Has it recovered okay?

As an American myself, I've asked several people this question. No one seems to know why either. Is it strategic position in the world? I don't think they have anything the US can exploit besides that really. Am I missing something? Political arguing aside what exactly is the motivation? Thanks for any explanations.

Especially as a human can normally consent to death but a pet can't

I'm browsing H&M and these choices look so random...

We've got Claude Monet and Van Gogh - sure, i love their paintings as much as the next person, but a T-shirt usually celebrates people or groups who are still alive, right?

And then "university of michigan" - why is faux university paraphenilia considered stylish?? Hell this is a bigger question than my original one. I'm shopping in Britain and the brand is European, what significance does University of Michigan have on our lives?

The various band name t shirts make the most sense, but for a while now there's bee. The whole "oh you like Band Name? Name 3 of their songs." attitude, so i see it dying off

Not intended as advertising btw.

Nepal is an outlier when it comes to flag shape, as it stands out from the norm (rather "two triangles stacked on top of each other") since according to them: the flag represents Himalaya Mountains & both religions: Hinduism & Buddhism, also the red triangular flag has been a Hindu symbol of victory since the writing of Ramayana and Mahabharata.

That is in contrast to most countries flags as a majority are rectangular in their shape (no matter where from USA, UK, Canada, Japan, Germany, Poland, etc.). I mean, why are most flags rectangle by default rather than being unique on using another shape? I mean, Nepal is the only country where a flag is designed from another shape that differs from a rectangle.

If there was a program that collected the barks, woofs, and whines of dogs along with a human description of what it means, could you process that data to create a sort of translator for dog speak that tells you the general idea of what they want? (e.g. hungry, glad to see you)

It would probably need an indicator for dog breeds since they will sound different. And obviously dogs don't speak the same sort of language we do, but could general emotions be translated?

Think a little bit like those apps that (human) bird watchers catalogue bird sounds that are assigned to specific bird species. Many people have a good idea of what a dog wants/needs when they hear the noises it makes, so I can imagine something similar for dog owners. They record sounds of their dogs and what they believe it means, just as bird watchers do for mating calls.

Would this work at all? Or are the sounds of dogs too varying, even accounting for dog breeds? And how does its effectiveness change for cats and other noisy pets?

Okay I'm gonna like info dump so apologies in advance:

...

Like say: a doctor's appointment...

You know when you're a kid and everything is just set up by parents?

Then like fast forward... you're an adult and parents are busy or something...

And then you're like "Omg I'm alone... wh- wh- wha- what am I supposed to do..."

Okay I wasn't alone, but my dad had to drive me there, but he doesn't speak English so I'm pretty much alone in terms of navigating all that stuff...

And example #2: Passport...

The last time I got it was when I was a teen so everything was already done by mom...

(funny thing is I ended up never using the passport cuz we never had a chance to travel... mostly just had it as proof of citizenship...)

Now I wanna like travel (maybe, no concrete plans yet) and mom told me to get a passport so when she comes back from her trip, maybe we go to Canada or something, I always loved the idea of Canada.

So um... I just bring the documents its good right?

Oh wait, I have to bring a photo thingy since the appointment didn't have the photo service...

wh--whe-where do I even go get that?

Oh shit the money order thing... wha- how- um... how much is it even exactly... oh fuck fuck fuck...

then my mind goes: I'm not gonna get all the stuff ready and miss the appointment and the next available one is like weeks away... shit... why is life so miserable?

mom is visiting China... so I'm just "alone" in the US... :/

I might have separation anxiety issues...

So I'm a self-employed general contractor. I got a job to redo the plumbing system in a customer's house and asked my dad to help me with it since it was a two-man job and he's been a plumber for 40+ years.

This morning the customer called to say that last night a loose fitting came off and completely flooded their utility room. They were able to shut off the water immediately and sweep/wet-vac the floors, and it looks like there was no permanent damage other than to my pride.

The thing is, the joint that failed was done by my dad. My customer doesn't know - I took full blame - but I feel like I don't want to tell my dad either, and here's the problem. I'm very big on honesty and I feel like I should tell him, or at the very least that I'd want to know if I was in his shoes. I just don't know what it achieves other than making him feel bad about it too. I don't want this to be the first thing that pops into his head the next time I ask for his help. I'd wish to keep this a good memory.

I'm torn here. I know my intentions are good, but I'm not sure whether I'm actually protecting his feelings or my own.

Wouldn't travelling forward in time put you in risk of dying and travelling backwards put everyone else in risk?

There are wealthy Black, Hispanic, Asian, etc. families that have been multimillionaires for a few generations (maybe even billionaires), but my question is: how did these Black and other families of color maintain their wealth through racist times?

I spent time having video calls with LEOs, intelligence agents and military folks over the course of the past 6-9 months. I saw how broken and disjointed and tribal power has become within the world of American authority.

I now know things about how the US government and military work that I feel the public should know.

I could write a book or make a YouTube video. But both of those are to inflexible and risky. I want to spill the beans in a much more permanent and effective way. I would like to help the public understand what is really going on behind the scenes, as best as I have seen.

Im realizing that I've actually been chronically dehydrated for a good portion of my adult life and I'm looking to change that. I just don't enjoy drinking water (as silly as that may sound).

Any advice is appreciated.

Not a technical person, as I understand it, Google and Bing are full search engines while options like Seaexng, Ecosia, Duckduckgo are meta search engine that depend on Google or Bing. Are there other search engines that are fully independent, and if there aren't, what are the barriers that stop other search engines from emerging

What is the reason for all the movement when we really need to go pee? Is it a subconscious reaction to distract the mind from a full bladder, or does sloshing the pee around in your bladder make it somehow better? I would assume not, since that probably increases the physical urge that you need to go pee, but why then do we dance and hop...
