Bonded - Rest in Violence

Consisting of ex-Sodom members plus Assassin’s vocalist and a guitarist from Suicidal Angels this is kind of a supergroup (in underground measures).

Fine thrash mixed with some groove metal. Many, many riffs and excellent drumming. Sometimes you can hear that the material was written for Sodom, however it would have been so different that Angelripper said Njet. Good for us cause we have a good new band.

The title track features Blltz from Overkill.

Ratos de Porao from Brazil deliver a punk influenced thrash album with a raw and vital atmosphere.

In 1991 when this record came out it was something different and a little exotic. IMO it’s fun to listen to, a little raw and unpolished. The Portuguese lyrics do add a nice touch to the music.

From their unreleased EP, Sea Shepherd, which would have come out in 2010 if there were no issues surrounding it. I'm a huge Gojira fan and while, admittedly, I don't follow every single thing, this still eluded me for 15 years. I just now heard of it from another fellow Gojira fan irl who is in the same boat as me, he found it from this article: https://www.loudersound.com/features/gojira-story-of-sea-shepherd-ep.

This track has guest vocals from Devin Townsend and the whole thing is an excellent extension of their The Way of All Flesh album. There's still hope it might come out one day!

Darkness - Blood on Canvas

Highspeed thrash with a punky fuck-off attitude by another veteran band from Germany.

Darkness let Kreator (then still known as Tormentor) use their rehearsal room, because they had lost theirs. The respective careers went in different directions later on.

Check out this record if you can use some melody in your thrash menu.

My favorite metal-covering videogame guitarist youtuber covers the roaring knight fight in Deltarune. Good enough to stand on its own out of the context of the game.

Normally I'd wait till Mondays to post my pick for the week, but I feel this is good enough to post a day early. Here we have a band from Chile singing in Mapuzugun, an ancient language of the indigenous Mapuche tribe of southern Chile and south western Argentina. I link to you my favorite track from their 2019 album Kollong. They play progressive groove metal, influenced by death metal - reminding me a ton of Gojira, just a bit unrefined. The Tidal link below goes to when they recorded it under a different name, but with Spanish lyrics instead, the Bandcamp has full Mapuzugun.

An excerpt from their Bandcamp: "Mawiza offers this chant to the protectors of the mountains. "Femngechi witxapürayay iñ kewün" "In this way, our language will rise again.""
