MATTOON, Ill. (KTVI) – Burger King, one of the nation’s most recognized fast-food chains and home of the iconic Whopper burger, can use its name almost anywhere in the United States. That is, except in one small, specific part of central Illinois.

This rare exception stems from a long-standing trademark dispute with a small, family-run restaurant in Mattoon, Illinois, which for much of its existence has also been named “Burger King.”

[...]

According to the company, the patties are only available in two regions for now: Columbus, Ohio, and Denver, Colorado. Shoppers can find them at local Kroger and King Soopers stores.

For $9, customers get a four-pack of fresh (not frozen) beef patties—one of the core claims in Wendy’s advertising for years. That breaks down to $2.25 per patty. Once you add buns, toppings, and condiments, the total might rival the price of a drive-thru order, but for fans of home grilling, that may not be the point. [...]

McDonald’s is no stranger to chicken. Between the iconic McChicken and McNuggets, and more recent endeavors like the Chicken Big Mac, poultry has established a place on the menu. Even discontinued McDonald’s items like the Mighty Wings and Chicken Fajitas prove that Ronald himself is coming for Chick-fil-A and Popeyes.

If you remember, McDonald’s had Chicken Selects on its menu for 10 years before discontinuing them in 2013. The next iteration, Buttermilk Crispy Tenders, was around from 2017 until 2020. I’ve tried all of McDonald’s previous chicken tenders in my lifetime, and the fast-food critic in me needed an honest taste of the new McCrispy Strips.

To be transparent, the strips were lackluster. The chicken itself tasted fine, so that wasn’t my problem. McDonald’s promised that the chicken strips would be “made with juicy, 100% white meat, coated with crispy golden-brown breading and bursting with a bold, new black pepper flavor.”

My stomach yearned for a thick, crunchy coating that would have me visiting McDonald’s constantly like the Snack Wraps used to. That’s not what I got.

McDonald's is known for its tried-and-true Big Macs, Quarter Pounders, and Chicken McNuggets, but the iconic fast food restaurant also isn't afraid to change up its menu at various locations. Lucky Micky D's fans may have tried McDonald's international menu items like India's McSpicy Paneer or Japan's Teriyaki McBurger while traveling abroad or regional specialties closer home. One such location-specific McDonald's sandwich is the Green Chile Double Cheeseburger, available exclusively in New Mexico.
