"The rollout of the new aid effort over the past week by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, an effort conceived in Israel and endorsed by the United States, was supposed to help Palestinians get aid while keeping it out of the hands of Hamas.

Instead the effort, criticized by multiple aid groups and the United Nations, has devolved into scenes of chaos and death. The New York Times spoke to eight witnesses who described how attempting to reach the sites had become a life-threatening endeavor."

"The University of Michigan is using private, undercover investigators to surveil pro-Palestinian campus groups, including trailing them on and off campus, furtively recording them and eavesdropping on their conversations, the Guardian has learned.

The surveillance appears to largely be an intimidation tactic, five students who have been followed, recorded or eavesdropped on said. The undercover investigators have cursed at students, threatened them and in one case drove a car at a student who had to jump out of the way, according to student accounts and video footage shared with the Guardian."

"Although it seems highly likely, even to the State Department, that Rodriguez acted entirely alone and on his own initiative, this hasn’t stopped the mainstream media, the Trump administration, or the Israeli government from attempting to use the shooting to silence its critics, sanctify and romanticize the lives of the victims (a privilege denied to the more than 60,000 people murdered by Israel in Gaza), and to actively propagate the lie that the movement for Palestine is a violent and antisemitic threat to domestic peace. Sami Vanderlip and Younis Tirawi Jun 06, 2025

"“You just need to destroy the neighborhood, so that they can’t come back there. Why to destroy? That’s the mission; that’s what I carry out.”

Those are the words of an Israeli sergeant from the 432 Tzabar Battalion of the Givati Brigade who spoke to Drop Site News on condition of anonymity due to Israeli military policy. Givati was one of the brigades involved in implementing the General’s Plan—a policy devised by former General Giora Eiland that used the lack of access to water, food, and medicine as a weapon of war to force the besieged Palestinians in the north of Gaza to starve or surrender."

Yes, it always was, but the fact that staunch Zionists acknowledge it now is another step forward in public opinion, and will make it politically more difficult to attack the Palestinian solidarity movement.

Right here. Biden's policies greatly strengthened Israel and directly helped the genocide.

Is Trump worse? I think yes. But that is still no reason to gloat or to think that endlessly supporting the lesser evil is going to produce any real changes that the world needs.

[-] [email protected] 22 points 5 months ago

Yes, and it is very positive that prominent human rights groups agree and document it. These reports can be used to pressure governments, universities, etc. to divest from Israel and to stop sending arms, software, etc. to Israel.

Maybe we don't, but there are still many people who aren't convinced yet, and Amnesty International producing a very solid document will likely help convince them.

But what about Hamas? /s

Aren't the elections over? Whatever "strategic" excuse for supporting Biden/Harris is gone now. It's a bi-partisan policy of unconditional support for Israel.

It's true Trump will be more extreme, but there is no longer any excuse for going easy on Biden/Harris, if there ever was.

This article cites another article from The Forward, a mainstream US Jewish publication that had information that countered the Israeli government narrative.

You mean the reaction (downvotes) in the .world instances, right?

I think the contrast reflects the real diversity of opinions, and not lack of stamina. Of course I am disappointed with the downvotes and the hostile comments to anything that might oppose Harris. But the level of discourse in Lemmy is a lot better than Twitter, FB, etc.

So I'm going to keep posting these to as many communities as I can. :-)
