I received a SimpleX link to a chat, and when I click on it, i can see their welcome message template

"Thank you for contacting o0o0o0o0. We will respond as soon as possible. Please clearly describe your request here so that we can assist you promptly"

Beneath that it says "connecting..."

And in the text entry field it says "can't send messages"

If I click in the text entry field I receive a pop up saying "You can't send messages!" with "ok" to close it.

I have gone to settings and selected restart. I have tried on two different devices, VPN on and off.

I have left it "connecting..." for over an hour (no change).

I have gone to their chat profile and says network status is connected and that "You are connected to the server used to receive messages from this connection"

I don't know what else to check, hoping somebody here will be able to help.

I'm trying to figure out how I add groups, specifically groups i have on my mobile app to my terminal.

simple x help suggested I add a directory bot but It is still not clear how i can connect to an existing group in the CLI, i'd expect /groups list should return some kind of list but that option doesn't exist.

Any tips appreciated!

EDIT: Well, looks like I figured it out. I need to find the URL from the group in the website, then paste that after /connect <URL>

This worked for a few but anything that required a captcha just didn't work, so not sure if there is a way around that.

I love everything about simplex. I want it to be the messenger for me. But the friction from mobile app to desktop is too much. My lifestyle and work mode have me on both laptop and desktop often. I prefer typing on desktop with the real keyboard.

Am I alone in thinking the friction is too much?

i've been using the ios app and often do not get any notification for an incoming message. seems i often dont get anything until i open the app again. is this a known issue?

We ran into a problem recently when trying to send SimpleX links on Lemmy. No matter what if a link was sent the recipient would get an error message instead of being invited to the room. After some trial and error we figured out that the QR code was the only way to send someone a working SimpleX invitation on Lemmy. If you send a link or post one something on Lemmy causes it to never resolve to the correct address and appear that the room is gone.

I'm not sure exactly what's going wrong but if you're having trouble sending links to others or having problems joining rooms from links on Lemmy give the QR code a try before you give up.

I have read the documentation, but i still don't understand how simpleX know that the messages are delivered to the right person if it doesn't use ID's. Could someone explain it schematically ?

I wanted to post this as a conversation then convert into an issues on github but it seem the github conversation of this project are closed... (we can't create new one) Do you know why ?

I've installed simpleX onfez android phones. it work smoothly. but for one of those phone (Android 14) the messages are only received and send when I restart the apps then no more. in Your settings\settings\Network & servers\network connection

The WiFi dot is red !

Is there an official statement on how SimpleX is pronounced?

Is it "simple ecks"? Is it just the English word, "simplex"? Is it something else?

If there is no official statement, how do the developers say it?

Downloaded the release 6.0.0-beta1 pre-release version of AppImage to my Qubes-Whonix. Then, created an encrypted archive (18 MB) of my android simplex using simplex app, and got my download link for migration to the desktop app. On the desktop appimage, I pasted this link, and it has been "DOWNLOADING LINK DETAILS" for 15 minutes now. Is this feature working yet, or am I waiting in vain?

Unfortunately simplex uses way too much battery on my unisoc tablet. It is also still quite high on an older qualcomm phone. Is there room for improvement with updates or is this the limitation of lower end hardware?

Hello, is the network connection to the SimpleX network made same way as in Session messenger (single point of failure in the form of several seed/bootstrap nodes "hardocded" in the client software, the nodes which hostnames/IPs can be blocked on ISP/government firewalls) ?

I'm curious to understand what could happened to simpleX if the new "security" plan in EU gets voted?

Because I'm not versed enough with the political and legal wording in thoses papers I've got a hard time to actually understand.

• Will simpleX be obligated to comply?
• Will simpleX retire from EU?
• Would It be illegal to use simpleX if the bill passes?
• Could we still use simpleX with a proxy/VPN from a country outside of EU?
• ...

I'm genuinely concerned about what I'm reading here and there on lemmy... I hope someone could give me some interesting point of view.
