I've been using Tusky for browsing mastodon for a while and really enjoyed its experience. But then they moved the boost button all the way down to the bottom of the screen and that's just too much traveling for my thumb. What used to be a seamless experience has been dragged out, and enlarged to take up a quarter of the screen.

I tried switching to Husky for a few days but its missing some key functions I like about Tusky, like being able to follow and block hashtags, and change "load more" behavior to open up instead of down. It seems to be more a Plemora thing anyway.

I don't have the skills to fork Tusky, so I'm wondering if there's a way to basically undo an update. How do I get back to an earlier version?

I remember some time ago installing an app that allowed me to film in the background whilst having another app open on top. I believe this was from f-droid. I actually have a legitimate use for this.

Could someone please suggest its name if they know, either from f-droid or a decent (trustworthy) app from the play store please.

It randomly changed to My First F-Droid Repo Demo. Only thing I could find was this reddit post from 3 days ago:

I have discovered this app and can't stop exploring ever since. You start at earth which is beautiful to observe with its night and day-cycle, but then you can click almost any celestial object and go there and learn more about it. I find it very educational but also mind-blowing.

On my first "trip" I tried to find my way back to earth. Well, let's say, I'm still somewhere out there, very, very far away...

@salexan @CollaboraOffice @fdroid #CollaboraOffice is already available on #fdroid. You should add its repo to the f-droid app in settings:

#Markor is an excellent #FOSS text markup app via @fdroid for #Android.
No ads, no privacy issues. Data stored locally. Just works.
Great #ToDo function among others note taking stuff.

On Samsung Phones. there is a function called "Auto Blocker". If this is enabled, this blocks installing apps from unknown sources and via USB and ADB. In principle, this is a useful feature, but it also prevents the installation of updates via F-Droid. Even if F-Droid is classified as trustworthy in general and can therefore theoretically install apps and updates automatically, activating this function prevents automatic updates. If this function is deactivated, new apps and updates are installed automatically on request.

Is there a way to activate this function and still receive automatic updates via F-Droid? Does the installation of the F-Droid.apk via ADB/USB change anything in this constellation?

Does anyone know of a Foss image editor where you can add this effect, to simulate depth of field/bokeh?

I found this old app in fdroid that has the right idea but its not maintained and doesn't work properly;

The Medito app is a (unsurprisingly) meditation/mindfulness app. Sort of the free software alternative to Headspace.
I haven't used it in a long time and was curious to see how it was doing, but I saw this:

  • it's only available on IzzyOnDroid now, I believe it used to be on F-droid at some point (edit: it wasn't)
  • the available release is 2 years old

So I thought, maybe the app was sadly just archived, but no, it's actually still under development, it's just that no releases have been published on GitHub for 2 years (2.0.48 clearly titled "Deprecated"), instead the Play Store releases keep being pushed out as recently as 3 February 2025 (3.2.0).
Oh and the issues tab has been disabled, which seems very shady to me.
So I wonder what the heck went down with this excellent app, it may still be considered "free software", also featuring the best licence (AGPL), but it looks like it has become unfriendly towards the community, I wonder why

Preferably something that doesn't require login or registration. An online app would work too, I suppose.
