We wanted to let you all know that Plex Media Server will no longer receive updates for 32-bit versions of Windows. The last supported release for 32-bit systems is version 1.42.2.

Why? Due to recent changes in how we build and deploy Plex Media Server, we’re no longer able to publish new 32-bit builds. Microsoft also ended mainstream support for Windows 10 in October 2025. While Microsoft does offer an Extended Security Updates program that provides security patches through October 2026, that program only covers critical security fixes — not feature updates — and it represents the final chapter for Windows 10 support overall.

What you can do: Many systems currently running a 32-bit version of Windows actually support 64-bit operating systems. We’d encourage you to check whether your hardware supports a 64-bit version of Windows. If it does, upgrading your OS would allow you to continue receiving the latest versions of Plex Media Server, along with broader security and feature updates from Microsoft going forward.

Your existing Plex Media Server (v1.42.2) will continue to work for now, but it won’t receive new features, bug fixes, or security patches from us going forward (and it’s possible that future Plex changes could impact such old, non-updated installs).

Back in my day, if you wanted to watch something with a friend remotely, you both had to load it up on your PCs and then do a "3-2-1 play" countdown to ensure you were both seeing the same thing at the same time. Fortunately, tech companies have since respected that people ideally want the app to do the syncing for them, and as such, there are plenty of ways to watch things with your friends with minimal hassle.

Plex is no different. It has a "Watch Together" feature that lets you open up a digital room to invite people into. Once everyone's settled and has their popcorn, you hit the play button on your end, and it'll sync your progress with everyone in the room. Now, an open-source version of Plex has added Watch Together compatibility to its repertoire, which is great news for people who like to know what their apps are doing under the hood.

I used to post regularly with Plex related projects to Reddit but since leaving I figured I'd try sharing my latest project here instead

My latest project, in an effort to decouple my smarthome setup from Alexa, is to recreate the functionality provided by the Plex Alexa skill so I can play things to my various Plex clients with voice commands in Home Assistant (plus I assume like all things I enjoy Plex will eventually EOL this anyway)

Of course I can edit some data manually, but for some reason the system does not identify it and I would like to know why or if I'm doing something wrong or if i can do something to fix it?

Plex has notified some of its users on Thursday to urgently update their media servers due to a recently patched security vulnerability.

The company has yet to assign a CVE-ID to track the flaw and didn't provide additional details regarding the patch, only saying that it impacts Plex Media Server versions 1.41.7.x to 1.42.0.x.

Anyone else noticing faster battery drain on iPad or iPhone since the update? An hour and a half of content has chewed through over 50% of my battery on my M1 iPad, not to mention the device getting very hot.

I must have gone through all the options twice, but can't find it. Not a super big deal, but since you already have the library button below, it's a bit redundant and unnecessarily taking up space.

I was just forwarded this someone in my household who watches our server. That's it folks. I've been a hold out for a long time, but this is honestly it.

They want me to pay to stream content that I bought from my hardware transcoded also on my hardware.

I'll say it. As of today, I say Plex is dead. Luckily I've been setting up Jellyfin, I guess it's time to make it production ready.

Edit I have a Plex Pass. More comments saying "Just buy a plex pass" are seriously not getting it. I have a Plex Pass and my users are still getting this.

Up until now all your playback data may be involuntarily sent to ad agencies and companies such as Amazon to silently influence and target your buyings. Now we can opt out everything and keep your watch habit private and treat your plex server like never existed.

EDIT: now you can also easily access privacy settings and delete all already uploaded watch history, and stop syncing watch states, rating etc. Remember to set all to private if privacy is important to you.

Upcoming Change to Remote Playback for Personal Media

We are also changing how remote playback works for streaming personal media (that is, playback when not on the same local network as the server). The reality is that we need more resources to continue putting forth the best personal media experience, and as a result, we will no longer offer remote playback as a free feature.

So Long, Mobile Unlock Fee

Our Android and iOS mobile apps previously required a one-time activation fee or Plex Pass to remove the one-minute playback limitation when streaming content from a Plex Media Server. As part of these changes, there will no longer be any such one-minute playback limitation.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR CURRENT PLEX PASS HOLDERS: For users who have an active Plex Pass subscription, remote playback will continue to be available to you without interruption from any Plex Media Server, after these changes go into effect.
