General history, preferably. Perfect Books has some niche histories and trivia, but I want to read the whole thing from the beginning (in hardcopy, not digital).

Thanks!

Included is a link to a post I made on Reddit, which also includes a link to an article that inspires these posts.

If the link doesn't work, essentially, I would like to help set something up for youth aging out of foster care and bring together other people who may be inclined to similarly help.

Starting June 2025, the City will start to manage and adjudicate parking ticket infractions through its Administrative Penalty System (APS), transitioning from the existing Provincial Offensive Act (POA) courts. The City’s new APS program will next extend to red light camera and automated speed enforcement infractions.

Kawartha Dairy, known for its Canadian-made ice cream, is opening its first Ottawa location in the city’s west end this summer.

The 600-square-foot drive-through location at 2200 Carling Ave. is near the intersection of Carling and Fairlawn avenues and across the street from Carlingwood Shopping Centre.

“This summer we’re excited to welcome customers to visit us in-store or through the convenience of our (drive-through) to pick up milk, cones and custom-made milkshakes,” the Crowe family, owners of Kawartha Dairy, said in the email.

Some councillors want to legally require developers to create parking spots.

New housing proposals that don’t include parking spots will be rejected.

Other councillors disagree.

Hello! My wife and I are currently living in Spain but are going to have a kid soon and looking to move back closer to my family in Ottawa. Ideally we would like to live some place walkable and are looking for some advice on neighbourhoods in Ottawa to explore. My family is in Carlington near Carling & Merivale and I’m not a huge fan on that area, Carling isn’t that pleasnt to walk around and the closest grocery store is Food Basics which isn’t that far away but involves walking around Carling and the 417 exit to get to.

I got some mixed advice about lower town and center town. I’ve heard that they are generally walkable but can be sketchy. Is this true in general? For example is lower town sketchy all over or just around Rideau? Like if we found a place south of Laurier would it be sketchy over there?

Are there other neighborhoods you’d recommend in the city that are walkable? I think the big things for me would be, being able to walk to a grocery store that you can get most of what you need, a pharmacy, and having decent access to transit. We’ll have a car but I really don’t enjoy driving and would like to avoid having to drive on daily basis.

Chris Barber and Tamara Lich have been found not guilty of most charges against them for their roles in the 2022 truck convoy protest in Ottawa.

On Thursday at the Ottawa Courthouse, Ontario Court Justice Heather Perkins-McVey found the pair not guilty of four charges apiece relating to intimidation and obstructing police.

They were both found guilty of counselling others to commit mischief. Perkins-McVey also found them both guilty of committing mischief themselves, but that finding was stayed at the request of Crown lawyers.

Barber alone was found guilty of counselling others to disobey a court order. Lich was not charged with this.

All told, Barber was found guilty of two charges, not guilty of four and had a seventh stayed. Lich was found guilty of one, not guilty of four and had a sixth stayed.

A transformational shift in city zoning rules has taken another step forward, but some councillors worry people won't pay attention until it starts upending the look of their neighbourhoods.

The second draft of a massive rewrite of Ottawa's comprehensive zoning bylaw went through council's planning and housing committee on Monday, with only minor changes from the first.

It still axes rules that force developers to build a minimum number of parking spaces in new buildings, and only slightly walks back major increases to building heights and housing density in much of the city.
