The fairy dust has settled, and a winner has emerged from Disney Lorcana‘s first World Championship.

The Acceleration is already locked in, and denying it is Liberal Fantasy.

There would be little point of having any interest in politics if this was true. As long as there are still people there is the ability to make things better. All fascism needs to triumph is for everyone else to do nothing.

Incorrectly assuming there is nothing we can do lets the fascists win. There is no limit to how bad things get. The more elections people refuse to vote for neoliberals the worse things will get. And the longer the fascists are in power the harder it will be defeat them in elections.

Its a great way to get written of as a useless Liberal that can only be trusted to fill out a rigged ballot.

We should fill out ballots if we get them. The wider the margin of victory the harder it will be for the fascists to rig elections. And we should expect there will be ballots, because to do otherwise is to comply in advance.

But wallowing in “Kamala should be President” is how you get treated like a dirty lib.

Everyone should have voted for Harris in the last election. Arguments against this are accelerationist and must be refuted at every opportunity.

Come join us in reality.

We should vote for neoliberals when the choice is between neoliberals and fascists. Fascism harms us all and so we shouldn't be complicit in our destruction by allowing fascists to win.

The “Glorious Past” was fucking terrible too.

Giving up cultural capital to the fascists is a needless ceding of ground to fascists. We should celebrate what American has gotten right while still criticizing what American has gotten wrong.

The point of criticism is to improve a thing you love. Mamdani loves New York City. It's why he wants to improve it with socialist policies. He believes in the melting pot he knows NYC can be. And the people voting for him may or may not get his socialism but they definitely understand his passion for their shared home. People who don't love their country or least the good their country is capable of have nothing to contribute to a political movement whose goal is to improve their country.

If all you're arguing for is to burn everything to the ground then you're getting what you wanted. You're not going to want Mamdani or some other socialist to be president. They're going to put a stop to the acceleration and build America up. But the only way socialists candidates can even win an election is for people to fill out ballots.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 6 days ago

The acceleration stops when we stop letting things get worse. Things only get better when we learn from our mistakes and use that knowledge to make things better. We have to educate people. Part of that means accepting not voting for Harris was a mistake in 2024. Which if you don't have a problem with then there's not much to discuss there. It was other people in the comment section who were still needing that pointed out.

We're more than likely going to end up in a similar scenario, with an incrementally better neoliberal, in 2028 if we even get an election. And that's if Gavin Newsom doesn't end up being the candidate. I'm starting to think he's going to go full "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" and just run on being more fascist than the Rebuplicans. Regardless, we need socialists and progressives to co-opt the Democrat party from the current establishment, neoliberal Democrats and then win every election we can. That becomes harder to do the longer we're stuck in a christo-fascist dictatorship. Not to mention the damage to the planet and vulnerable communities all over the world in the meantime.

We need to support candidates like Mamdani. And not allow fascists to win when the choice is between them and a neoliberal. That's how we reduce the most harm in the short run and set the stage to have a socialist political revolution in the long run.

This has gotten me thinking how problematic a Newsom v DeSantis race could be in 2028. =(

I'm arguing that accelerationism is a self-destructive ideology. Democrats are going to keep chasing the neocon conservatives who vote over the leftists who don't vote. The way we win is getting more candidates like Mamdani in positions of power, including the presidency. But we're still going to need to neoliberal candidates in order to have majorities in Congress and state legislatures. There aren't going to be enough socialist candidates in the short term. Hopefully there will be quite a few progressives though.

Did you see the way Walz alienated the indigenous voters? I’m deeply curious about what response you get from Palestinian-Americans grieving their families. To absolve Democrats of their inability to message coherently when we need it most? Is simply unacceptable.

Also, I'm not Tim Walz. But he was liked by indigenous voters.

Walz also had better takes on Gaza than Biden.

I don't control the Democratic party.

Your argument is inherently accelerationist. Everyone needs to know how self-destructive it is.

As Disney Lorcana nears the end of its second year, the latest chapter Reign of Jafar has hit store shelves. In addition to Single Player Decks, booster packs, accessories, and another Illumineer’s Quest — this one called Palace Heist — a new Illumineer’s Trove is also available. Our friends at Ravensburger were nice enough to send me this latest collection, so let’s take a look at what’s inside and what I think of this particular edition.

Holy Rule Batman! (lemmy.blahaj.zone)
submitted 2 weeks ago by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

[Alt-Text] Batman, an animated bat, and Robin, a robin, are in a room with an infinity gears machine. The Riddler is behind a locked door on an intercom.

Riddle me this Batman! The door to my room will only open if the last gear fully rotates, but you can only turn the first gear! How long will you be standing there? HAHAHAHA!

Holy sociological metaphor Batman! If you tired to fully turn the last gear by only incrementally turning the first gear, you would be standing there for 346 quintillion years! The Earth's orbit will decay before we catch the Riddler at this rate!

Batman picks up the infinity gears and then flips it over. This opens the locked door and reveals a surprised Riddler, who is a Tommy gun.

Disney Lorcana continues to impress, and Reign of Jafar might just be the best set yet. Every release feels like Ravensburger is finding more of their rhythm, and with each new expansion, I catch myself saying, “This is my favorite set so far.” That’s a great sign, it means they’re actively improving and making this TCG even more enjoyable. Here’s a closer look at everything Reign of Jafar brings to the table.

Since its launch in August 2023, Disney’s Lorcana has grown to eight sets and more than 1,500 cards to its roster. The ninth set, slated to be released in September 2025, will bring several notable changes to competitive Lorcana play, change the name of the game when it comes to collecting, and much more. Titled Fabled, the next set is arguably one of the most exciting updates to Lorcana yet.

When Ravensburger announced the first cooperative Disney Lorcana set that had players fighting against Ursula, I was instantly intrigued. However, the lack of product at launch locally to me, and a price that I found a bit too high, stopped me from picking it up and giving it a go. While I still think the price for this product is expensive, the latest cooperative release, Palace Heist, is so much better than the first release. If Disney Lorcana is your passion and you enjoy a good, tough cooperative experience, this is an easy pick up in my opinion.

One systemic rule later... (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

Last time the alt-text I wrote didn't seem to work. So I'm going to put it in the body as well.

[Alt-Text] A cyclops considers his predicament. "This dungeon is known for plucking out an eye as part of a hazing ritual. I'll conspire to replace the current boss! That'll fix it!"

Spongebob Squarepants style time skip. "One adventuring party later..."

A cyclops wearing an eyepatch considers his predicament. "So an organization's culture can persist across multiple leaders... Systemic change will fix it!"

The rule of law means that no one is above the law, not even the president. If the president is above the law then we do not have the rule of law. Being labeled a felon is the idea of a punishment, but since there are no consequences to this sentencing there is no punishment.

At least imposing a fine would have been consistent with precedent. At that point it would have been an issue with our laws being to lenient. That would have been a much more easily remedied problem than doing away with the rule of law, a founding concept of modern western civilization.

The rule of law was dead when the Supreme Court ruled presidents have immunity for core constitutional responsibilities and presumed immunity for official acts in Trump v. United States. This is another nail in the coffin.

[-] [email protected] 88 points 7 months ago

I'm not a fan of the nepotism and I don't plan on defending it. Biden claims he needs to do this to keep his family safe from an unfair system. If he's going to do stuff like this and acknowledge our institutions are flawed how about do stuff for the American people, Ukraine, or anyone without the last name Biden. The peaceful transfer of power to fascism, but his family got theirs leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

[-] [email protected] 87 points 8 months ago

If pollution under Trump is as bad as he is promising the idea of hitting 5 degrees C by 2075 doesn't seem that far fetched.

It's 2024 so that's 51 years from now. I'm 31. If I'm not dead by then I would be 82. So I could, in theory, live to see it.

[-] [email protected] 147 points 8 months ago

This is the story that we need to be focusing on until election day. None of the other stunts matter. If anything this post should be pinned. We should keep our eye on the ball even if the media won't.

Trump threatened to send the military and the national guard after people on the left and Democratic politicians. This is blatant and open fascism. In any other election Trump being openly fascist would be the October surprise. Everyone needs to see this.

[-] [email protected] 83 points 11 months ago

I didn't want to believe it but they're already in the comments. We need to be vocal. Kamala is a great candidate.

[-] [email protected] 78 points 1 year ago

I see a lot of people in comments sections, including this one, saying we should let states secede because they would lose federal funding and this would punish those states. I get that a lot of this is people joking around. But I would like to point out this isn't an effective way to punish the fascists who are actually causing problems.

The fascists in control of those states are usually wealthy individuals and won't be harmed by this at all. The people who will be harmed by this is our fellow people. Also, not everyone in those states identify as Republicans. Take Texas as an example where a majority of people are not Republican.

https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/religious-landscape-study/state/texas/party-affiliation/

Only 39% of Texas adults identify as Republican or lean Republican. 21% have no lean and 40% identify as Democrat or lean Democrat.

We are much better off pressing sedition charges against Abbott and his cabinet members if he actually tries something more serious than this or keeps this stunt going for too long.

The fact they feel the phrase fuck tankies is acting as a barrier to their participation in 196 should be a wake up call for them to examine their political views.

Unlike their use of the word liberal, which they use to refer to everyone to the right of them on the political spectrum, we are using the word tankie for a single specific group. Tankie means authoritarian communist. Please keep the sign.
