Blind Kitties (hexbear.net)
submitted 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) by SwagliacciTheBadClown@hexbear.net to c/pets@hexbear.net

Anyone have experience with blind kitties? I’ve recently had one move in with me, and was looking for advice/considerations others have learned?

I adopted one over a month ago (~1.5 yo I think)- they didn’t catch that she’s blind at the shelter - and I recently confirmed at the vet that she’s hella blind and ruled out riskier potentially related conditions (eg high blood pressure). She can maybe see faint light, and her pupils contract eventually, but doesn’t track motion and the vet looked at the rods and cones and said there’s “nothing going on back there” lol.

She was taken to the shelter because she didn’t get along with other cats in her previous home - which she was probably because she couldn’t see shit and was scared all of the time. And absolutely loves playing! She tracks wand toys really well, and loves to play fetch- especially with jingly stuff, but also felt catnip toys.

She’s been adapting well - is learning the layout of the home, has no litter box issues, finds the food and water, finds the best sun beams, and loves watching out the windows (or at least tracking the sounds of squirrels?)

Additional things I’ve done: -Added suction cups on the floor as a textured “rumble strip” around door frames/corners -added night lights to outlets (she can possibly faintly see light) -added different scents to different rooms to help with her mapping

Tbh she seems to be doing quite well. I mostly wanted to know if there’s anything I'm missing or if anyone has picked up any great tips?

Thanks comrades

In this week's episode of Struggle Session, Comrade Documentarian and the Sashatown People's Army discuss the only viable way out of this crisis- preemptive total nuclear war against these NATO drones that want to starve our nation. Join The Gang for goofs and gags, as well as some helpful tips about digging a #hole to survive up to two years in.

My dog thinks the cleaning robot exists to steal his things. Now hearing it power up is the thing that motivates him most to eat while glaring at it. He follows it around the apartment getting angry when it goes near his toys. He thinks it wants to steal his bed so he hides his blankets and paws it away.

Peafowl (thelemmy.club)
submitted 1 month ago by microfiche@hexbear.net to c/pets@hexbear.net

Neighborhood peafowl. Two juveniles, and a mating pair. Not visible are the cock and hen, these two juveniles are from last spring I think. The juveniles are relatively tame, my daughter has to walk by the spot every morning to catch the bus and she says they have let her pet them a few times. She says the hen is pretty moody tho and to watch out if you are on foot going by there.

They belong to the dope house up the block, peafowl make great watchdogs. They are extremely noisy and nobody mistakes the peafowl for a dog bark.

Not sure if this is 'pets' in the traditional sense but someone takes care of them so I guess that makes them a pet.

Went back to Sergio's house for the final to meet the plumbing inspector to pick up my green tag, and Sergio was waiting to say howdy.

He is such a good boi. Look at his big ol' dumbo ears! I think he was genuinely excited to see me and I was genuinely excited to see him.He kept making the cutest little awoos and scratching at my leg and the gal who owns the house I was working at said he wanted me to pick him up, so I even carried him around a bit while I spoke w the inspector.

She said he doesn't like men so him taking after me made me feel like I'm not such a bad person if Sergio likes me. I kinda wanted to take him home and make him wear funny hats, and glasses and take pictures of him.

I told her "Maggie you're not using the chair the right way!"

She's been whipping her tail and growling occasionally, very low. If I try to help her get up she growls a bit more and digs her back claws in which reminds me that I haven't trimmed them in too long apparently.

My bad kitty.

The ball bone provides according to toy needs, and in doing so demonstrates the abilities of the individual user. A worker can chew, squeak, carry, and even gnaw with increased efficiency. General Secretary Sasha Bear, Workers' Party of Sashatown, recently used a ball bone in the Central Luxury Mansion as part of his daily joy ration. It received preferential treatment among toys. The maker was rewarded with two refrigerators for their patriotism.

I think lenin would understand. What's really funny to me is that if I move the book she loses interest

We just had a solid night. Bit of play time, then she sat in a box and supervised me doing a puzzle and then we cuddled up and watched some star trek and then 2nd play time. She's 10 and a half now and so im really stoked she still needs so much play time. She also needs to be picked up snd held and snuggled really close while we check all the windows when I wake up every day. She rocks so hard

A couple days ago I got him a toy that he LOVED. Then he randomly ran away from me.

Prior to that I had brought him some food. He ate it all up and then in the middle of eating some more nummies I brought him, he abruptly ran away at full speed, and when I tried approaching him he hissed at me.

This time he didn't seem to want the toy. He seemed like maybe he was scared of the people sitting nearby. He kept looking over at them. And then he ran away.

Last time it seemed like he got scared by some people that were maybe 20-30 feet away. He isn't scared of people though.

It makes me sad because I don't always see him. I get a few chances every week or so.

Miss the little guy a lot. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about him and miss him. I often visit his grave outside and just sigh to myself. It sucks, but I gave him the best life I possibly could, he didn't want for nothing. So I take some solace in that fact, that in his time here on earth I did right by him and loved him dearly.
