Jalmari Kalmari in Finnish.

Kalmari means squid.

[-] random_character_a@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

...and Jalmari is a common Finnish male name.

This one is fun to say.

Calamari exists on English too, I wonder where it is borrowed from

[-] FreeAZ@sopuli.xyz 4 points 2 days ago

Calamari is Italian for squid. We just call the food calamari in English but it's just ripped from Italian, not really an English word.

Every language has loanwords, and they become part of that language when enough people use them.

Squiduid Tentacles (Hebrew), just because names that end with -ward are kinda goofy sounding in our language.
