Quarterback Stetson Bennett's journey to the NFL has been anything but linear. He went from Georgia walk-on to transferring to junior college, transferring back to Georgia and then helping lead the Bulldogs to consecutive College Football Playoff national championships in the 2021 and 2022 seasons. Bennett, a 2022 Heisman Trophy finalist, did enough in his senior season at Georgia to be selected 128th overall, in the fourth round, of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Now, his professional football journey is on pause as the Rams placed him on the reserve/non-football injury list Wednesday. That means he is not suiting up with the team for an undisclosed reason, not involving an injury on the field. Rams head coach Sean McVay refused to get into any specifics about Bennett's situation at his press conference on Wednesday.

Former NFL wide receiver Mike Williams has died after being involved in a construction site accident last week, the Buccaneers announced. He was 36 years old.

A native of Buffalo, New York, Williams was drafted by the Buccaneers in the fourth round (No. 101 overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft. He is perhaps best known for his rookie season with Tampa Bay, when he led the team with 65 catches for 964 yards and a then-franchise-record 11 touchdowns.

Bakhtiari, who spent 10 seasons as Rodgers' teammate in Green Bay, immediately pointed out that he thought that the turf was to blame for the injury. A few moments later, the veteran offensive lineman called out the NFL for not getting rid of artificial turf. Bakhtiari's biggest issue seemed to be the fact that a bunch of NFL stadiums will be installing grass for the upcoming 2026 World Cup, which is something they haven't been willing to do for NFL teams even though players have been asking the league for years to install grass at every stadium.

The turf issue at MetLife Stadium specifically has been a nightmare over the past few years. Multiple teams have complained about the turf, including the 49ers, who watched five different players get injured during a 2020 game against the Jets.

[The] Green Bay Packers will take a big hit after Rodgers suffered a serious injury during the Jets' season-opening win over the Bills. Rodgers will miss the rest of the season with a torn Achilles, meaning the Jets will now send the Packers a 2024 second-round pick instead of a first-round pick, since Rodgers will fail to play in 65% of the Jets' offensive snaps this season, as part of the stipulation in April's trade. New York would have sent the Packers a 2024 first-rounder if Rodgers played in more than 65% of the snaps.

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers' 2023 season is over before it ever really got started. After the quarterback was injured on his fourth play of the Jets' opening game, head coach Robert Saleh told reporters that they feared that the four-time NFL MVP tore his Achilles tendon. That is what was ultimately discovered following an MRI on Tuesday.

The injury will be season-ending. On the Jets' first drive Monday night, Rodgers was injured and helped off the field by trainers. After a visit to the blue medical tent, he was carted to the locker room. After initially being labeled as questionable to return with an ankle injury, he was later downgraded to out. The Jets announced that his X-rays were negative.

The Superior Court of Washington ruled in favor of Oregon State and Washington State Monday, granting a temporary emergency restraining order against the Pac-12 that will disable the conference from conducting formal board meetings until the court rules further. Judge Gary Libey, however, amended the order to allow the Pac-12 to conduct business regarding urgent matters for the 2023-24 academic year before 10 of its 12 members depart for other conferences next summer.

The hearing and subsequent ruling came less than one week after Oregon State and Washington State, which are the only continuing Pac-12 members beyond the 2023-24 academic year, filed a complaint against the conference and commissioner George Kliavkoff. The complaint seeks to prevent any votes on the Pac-12's future from occurring until legal clarity is obtained on who controls what is left of the conference.

As the founder and main mod of /c/[email protected], if anyone here wants to be a mod over there just let me know. I’m not sure if the Lemmy.world users know this but our instance was blocked for about three-four weeks by the Lemmy.world admins which is why users on this instance were unable to see our posts for awhile. Our main admin was able to get this resolved so we are federated again (thankfully). I also have over a hundred individual team communities that need mods so please feel free to ask to take over those communities!

I'm trying to work on adding a CFB bot to the existing redball bots (https://github.com/benja810/redball/tree/lemmy-nfl) so if anyone is familiar with CFB API and is willing to help us out, let me know. I hope to see everyone over there and I will keep coming over here as well to see what’s going on!

It would be so much better if I could just block an instance called “Lemmy.sports”.

Ironically, I’m part of a sports-only instance. I’m not sure if you can block an instance as a user, but hopefully one day we can emerge as a predominant sports instance and you can just block us, thereby eliminating most sports-related posts from your feed. Good luck with this issue, and sorry in advance for all the individual sport/team posts you will see from us in the future.

I, for one, welcome our new Braves overlords.

Also, search is weird on Lemmy. If no one on your instance has looked up the specific community then you won’t find it in search. The entire url has to be searched by someone on your instance before it will show up in a keyword search. Part of the growing pains of Lemmy and a big reason why there are several duplicate communities across instances.

If you make a comment or post on that community I’ll make you a mod.

NFL news this time of year is just players getting into trouble and “Too early to tell” articles, unfortunately.

I don’t know if you would be interested, but the instance that I am on is focused on general sports discussion and has an NBA Community (albeit inactive at the moment). Feel free to crosspost some NBA/Pacers stuff over there and maybe we can boost some basketball conversation. Good luck with growing your community!
