I just read a post that said “don’t worry, we haven’t just abandoned Memmy”, which is great…but that post is two months old. What’s going on?

I just avoid those conversations completely. It’s a nightmarish situation, with a long, complicated history. Many opinions are uninformed, and I don’t think I have anything of value to add.

“It will not record audio, and it will not use facial recognition,”…

YET

The NYPD does not own the robot, Adams said, but is in fact leasing it from the Knightscope company…

A company which I’m sure is 100% ethical, and has no ulterior motives whatsoever.

I was expecting something clearly offensive, like FUCK YOU shaved into his head, but nope.

Personally, I think his hair looks pretty cool.

My background is in telecommunications (the technical side of video production), so I know that 30fps is (or was?) considered the standard for a lot of video. TV and movies don’t seem choppy when I watch them, so why does doubling the frame rate seem to matter so much when it comes to games? Reviewers mention it constantly, and I don’t understand why.

Short answer for me is that I joined for a civil place on the Threadiverse not a walled garden. So if you guys leave the Threadiverse I will have to find a new home.

It hurts to admit, but my initial reaction is similar. A completely defederated Beehaw is much less appealing.

Those damn things are not ready to be used on public roads. Allowing them is one of the more prominent examples of corruption that we’ve seen recently.

You’re completely right to feel that way. As an American, it’s mind blowing to me, too. I really don’t like the fact that “hidden fees” have become normal.

I almost exclusively use Memmy on my iPad, so I didn’t notice this for a while.

Sometimes I get the “submit logs” screen. I dutifully click the link to submit the logs. I thought I was helping. Then, the other day, Memmy crashed when I was using it on my phone instead of my iPad. I clicked “submit logs” as usual… and my phone actually seemed like it was doing something. I’ve never noticed that on my iPad.

That made me wonder - is the Submit Logs feature on iPad just much more subtle, or is it actually broken?

I’ll be happy to provide specifics about my hardware/software upon request.

I read this wondering if there would be something strange, or an overreaction. There’s nothing like that at all. It’s basically just a law that forces tech companies to respect people and their right to privacy. Most of it is common sense stuff that you think they should do without having to be told.

Then you remember that there’s money involved, and people think ethics are too expensive.

If he’s caught (which I think will be soon) this is a great way to guarantee the maximum sentence. If he’s not caught, he gets to spend the rest of his life hiding and afraid. Either way, the public wins… but I’d rather see him in prison.

Some mistakes make you want the person responsible fired, but some mistakes are SO bad that you actually feel sorry for them instead. This falls into the second category.

I used to write it up to market share. Decades ago, it seemed like every other day someone wrote an article about how Apple was doomed. I figured it just wasn’t efficient to mess with Apple stuff when you could mess with Windows.

That’s not as much of an issue anymore, but is it still the main reason? Is there a technical issue as well?

“Hey, baby, the prime minister is telling us to have kids. That’s got me pretty horny. No, he’s not making any significant changes to help take the edge off that massive expense and responsibility, but who cares? I’ll put his speech on loop and turn it up. Let’s fuck.”

No, YouTube. NO. I will NEVER, EVER want YouTube Premium. Stop asking me about it every fucking time I watch a video.

One thing I absolutely cannot stand is the assumption that if you’re against the Israeli government, you must also be antisemitic. In many cases, nothing could be further from the truth.

The Israeli government is just as screwed up as any powerful government, and is not immune to criticism. Groundless accusations of antisemitism are often used to unfairly attack critics, distract the listener from valid criticisms, and derail the conversation.

Of course, many of those accusations are completely justified, which clouds the issue further.

The spammers have broken in and started posting links to sites I’ve never heard of. I must have blocked a dozen users today.

I frequently notice typos, grammatical errors, poor wording, etc. in my comments shortly after posting, so I edit them. Do those edits get shared among servers as quickly as the initial post did?

This has gotten WAY out of hand.

A bad idea is one thing. They happen all the time. Many executives would sell their souls for the kind of recognition that the blue bird had, but I suppose a good marketing team could have pulled off a successful rebranding.

This whole “x” fiasco, however, is a series of bad ideas done hastily, sloppily, and with little to no planning. It’s completely unjustifiable, from any perspective - unless you’re Elon, apparently.

Sorry, I know this question has been asked and answered a thousand times, but I’ve read about so many apps lately that I don’t remember which has plans for what.

Will Memmy eventually be compatible with Kbin?

[-] [email protected] 77 points 2 years ago

Maybe I’m a dork, but I think“correlation does not equal causation” is actually a good thing to keep in mind.

I’m reminded of it every time a news story says something is “linked” to something else. I hate it when the word “linked” is used in this way. It’s often lazy journalism and/or a scare tactic. Saying that two things are “linked” implies a stronger relationship than may actually exist. I find it deliberately misleading.

I have accounts on several instances. When I seemingly switch between instances (using the drop-down menu at the top of the screen), the posts remain the same. For example, posts stickied by mods on Beehaw will still be visible when I switch to lemmy.world. My profile won’t be visible, either.

Apologies, I don’t know how to report bugs. Is this a known issue? Is the answer something obvious that I can fix myself? Do I even report bugs here? Do you need more information? Please excuse my ignorance, and THANK YOU for a great app (which I’m using right now)!

I’m excited by the potential of the fediverse, and I want the fediverse to grow. That means more users. However, the noncommercial nature of the fediverse is why I’m excited by it in the first place. I couldn’t care less if there’s yet another gigantic social network full of ads.

Allowing any profit-driven interest to influence the fediverse risks destroying what makes the fediverse interesting and special. I’m not willing to risk the fediverse in order to grow it.

I’d like different color themes for each instance, to help me keep track of which instance I’m on.
