It’s not about fear, it’s about thinking logically.

They have already shown they can simply refuse any nominations during a presidential election year.

In this hypothetical scenario it makes more sense to save the money and only do it after/if Biden wins. Otherwise you’re just wasting millions to hand them a free nomination to appoint to a younger judge who will hold the seat for even longer.

The GOP refusing is only the next step in the chain - Biden backed down for fear of being uncivil and creating a constitutional crisis - he doesn't have to do that.
