I think it depends on if it ever actually happens

They will federate for sure, they already prepared legal ground for it. I think federation with lemmy will be akin mastodon: treads users can communicate with lemmy, while lemmy users won't be able to participate in discussions on Threads.

In this case, I predict Threads to become the base for spammers and trolls to engage on lesser Fedi. Meta won't pay any attention to what their users do on other platforms (maybe with exceptions for largest mastodon servers), and Lemmy's limited modtools will make any actions but defederation useless.

And the fact that we on Lemmy won't be able to see Threads content (not sure if anyone here wants it anyway), federation with them doesn't make much sense.
