I made browsing by pages a default in Summit and a lot of users wanted infinite browsing :(. I think giving the users the choice between the two is a good solution. It does feel like most people seem to prefer infinite scrolling however.
I like an infinite scroll with a strong indicator of what page I'm on... I still feel guilty if i doom scroll too far
If you want to give Summit a try, it does have settings for both page indicators (it shows a big page number heading whenever you scroll past a page) and even manual page loading (when you scroll to the end you have to tap a button to load more). You can control these settings individually in Settings > Post List > Auto-load more posts / Show page numbers.
I prefer infinite scroll. Pages wouldn't make me view less, it would just be more clicks and more inconvenient. So yeah, everyone can use what they like, I'm glad We have The option.
One could argue that that is an intended feature (on infinite scrolling's end)!
The incovenience of pages helps me a lot.
