Trams work great if you do them right:
Give them priority at crossings, so when a tram arrives at a crossing the traffic lights jump to red for all other traffic.
Separate the tracks from traffic, preferably give them a grassy lane in the center of the street so cars can never stand in the way.
M10 certainly doesn’t have 1 and in many places doesn’t have 2.
If the street is too narrow for a separate track (2), exclude cars.
