Is this because of just Starfield? Fallout 76 was messy at release but the core concept is novel and most people are praising that game.

Starfield was an anomaly. Sometimes when you spend too much time on a project, you bog it down. Todd spend way too much time on his baby and made it a mess. That isn't inherent to Bethesda.
