This obsession people have with pretending Man City are getting away unnoticed with breaking financial rules really need to go outside more. Just because Everton have been dealt with first doesn't mean City have been forgotten about or the charges against them aren't real. It was explained at the time they were announced that their charges could take years to be settled, but a few months later people piss their pants about them not being punished yet.
Everton have left a trail of breadcrumbs to their massive financial mismanagement over the last few years and they've been punished for it after a literal years ong investigation. Why the fuck is it so hard for people to talk about this instead of just rolling around on the floor screaming about Man City?
Because there’s no precedent for any footballing authority standing up against a club/owners of that stature, and there’s plenty of precedent for the opposite. Calciopoli is the closest there is, but there are two crucial differences. Firstly, the fact that City is owned by an actual state that doesn’t seem to shy away from exorting diplomatic pressure to get what they want. And secondly, the fact that the Calciopoli investigation was carried out by the police and related to actual crimes (matchfixing) that Moggi and his crew were caught in the act of committing.
City won’t face more than a fine, or potentially a points deduction provided that it happens at a time when it’s inconsequential.
The frustration is Everton have been trying to work with the league in good faith, having them review any business that’s been happening, cooperating with the investigation. The book is being thrown at them for price of a single average premier league player. Regardless no one has any faith that City will be punished to the same extent Everton have been. Not sure why don’t feel people are entitled to think this is incredibly harsh
