I don't doubt Israel had some unspecified warnings, but I just think it's much more likely that it was a mixture of a misguided belief that Hamas was more interested in political power than large scale terrorism, an assumption that any attack would just be "regular" rocket attacks like we've seen in the last years, incompetence of Israeli intelligence services, and an over confidence that the fence and Iron Dome would be enough to stop any attack. Also, Israel doesn't need Hamas. Just look at the West Bank where Hamas isn't in power. Agree though that Bibi shouldn't be in power. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] MoistMogwai@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) It's a difficult thing to prove without a whistle blower fairly high up in Israeli intelligence. What does look very suspicious is one of the most advanced intelligence agencies in the world "missed it", and it took one of the most well funded and constantly present in the area militaries 8 hours to respond. Israel has had a major PR problem as more and more people view Palestinians as people who also deserve to be alive. [–] lolcatnip@reddthat.com 1 point 2 years ago (1 child) What makes you think I'm talking about Americans in particular? And when did you go from "people are obligated to stage a coup" to "people should write their senators?" I fail to see the so-called whataboutism you're accusing me of, and you sure seem to have a hard time deciding what you're even talking about. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Thief_of_Crows@sh.itjust.works 1 point 2 years ago Israelis are obliged to stage a coup. Maybe Americans are too, along with all of the countries funding Israeli genocide. Its whataboutism to say I'm only aloud to be against genocide if I've already staged a coup. Its a completely bullshit deflection. I shouldn't have taken you in good faith, my apologies. I'll treat you like an insincere troll if you prefer. permalink fedilink source parent
