Police in the North Bay are on the lookout for an unusual stolen vehicle.

A Humvee was stolen from the National Guard armory in Santa Rosa on Monday night and has since been spotted driving around Sonoma County, officials said. The 15-foot-long, 6-ton green vehicle was stolen sometime around 10:20 p.m., when someone apparently scaled the fence at the armory, located at 1500 Armory Drive, said California Highway Patrol Officer Marcus Hawkins.

The thief then smashed the four-wheel-drive military truck through the armory's gates and took off. The stolen Humvee has since been seen at three different locations around Sonoma County, driving recklessly and without headlights on, Hawkins said. The last place it was spotted was reportedly on River Road near Wohler Road, an area near Forestville. CHP told ABC7 it's likely the thief has some military background. "I believe that's a safe assumption. If you are not in the military, I can only imagine what it takes to start a Humvee," Hawkins told the outlet.

The vehicle had still not been located Wednesday, the National Guard told SFGATE over email.

"No weapons or sensitive items were inside the vehicle," Lt. Col. Brandon Hill wrote. "We are working with local and state law enforcement agencies to recover this stolen vehicle.”

More impressive still is that it wasn't found broken down on the side of the road.
