The Waffen-SS was not part of the German military, it was literally the militia of the Nazi party, so you can't even try to play the "clean Wehrmacht" historical revisionist bullshit here.
1st Galician was a VOLUNTEER division, meaning this person you're defending chose to join the party and VOLUNTEERED to fight against the allies.
