Okay, so the CEO of Proton didn’t pass your purity test, I get it. But you know which CEOs also suck? The CEO of Google and the CEO of Microsoft. How can we expect secure and private alternatives to these ecosystems to flourish if we are constantly engaged in infighting? We will get nowhere if we reject every service that is short of perfect. Let’s keep our eyes on the bigger picture here.

Another hot take: I suspect that at least some of the hate directed at Proton is a smear campaign by some state actor who wants to see private online platforms fail.

Is the product worse though? I’ve literally noticed zero difference and I’ve been using Protonmail for a decade.

Do you think choosing to include AI-generated code without security review will make it better? You may not have noticed a difference yet, but I'm not trusting my data to such a reckless policy and waiting until I personally notice.

That’s your choice, but if you want to avoid AI generated code then you may as well become Amish at this point. Even the Linux kernel uses it

Did you choose to ignore the part where I said "without security review"? Saying to either embrace AI code fully or become Amish is a ridiculous false dichotomy. Also I'd like it if you answered my questions.

Do you seriously think that Protonmail has no security review?

Do you seriously think that a conversation means one party can ignore whatever they're incapable of answering and misdirect by calling out points that haven't been made?

Since you're not willing to have an actual conversation, I'll choose to block you and discuss the issue with adults. It works somewhat like choosing a business to be a customer of. If I don't agree with the direction they're going in, I stop using their services.

Based on the decision-making practices of these CEOs who don't actually understand the technology they're in charge of... I wouldn't be shocked if the security review is functionally nonexistent. We did just see that so much of our online security was literally hidden behind the number 4 and has caused a massive security vulnerability in everything that caused everyone to scramble to patch it out.

Diamonds are an excellent product with horrible labor practices. Decent people don't use products made by malevolent companies. Moissanite is fine in place of diamonds for most uses, and it's easy to replace Proton.

What's a good alternative where mail, vpn, password manager, drive, and collaborative document editing are parts in an ecosystem?

Coupling those things causes lock-in with little upside. My VPN and email provider have no symbiotic connection. Lift & Shift leverages the key value of the free market; competition. "Ecosystem" is marketing speak for captive customer, not customer value.
