I am optimistic. I agree with the others here that by and large, the democrats won’t do much on paper to stop Trump in the foreign policy realm. However, Trump still needs political capital to pull it off. I think he has none left now. A lot of the more covert things probably won’t stop (fucking around with elections in LatAm for example). But I actually think he is hamstrung from doing anything big like trying to invade Cuba or dropping a nuke on Iran. He tries that and I legit think he would have to start at least fearing impeachment. Possible that some GOP politicians won’t fear breaking from Trump. A lot of GOP voters are pissed at Trump specifically because they believe his little Iran adventure cost them the election.

If they take this as a rebuke of the Iran war, and they should, they might wind it down. But I think its more likely they authorize a major escalation so Trump can "finish the job".

Nothing major.

They might investigate and harass Trump enough that he feels too under siege to do certain kinds of overt imperialism (think kidnapping Maduro) or even withholds doing it as kind of punishment to the establishment. On the other hand being under siege he might lash out abroad in an attempt to create some kind of "legacy" given he'll no longer have any ability to do major things domestically but something like knocking over the Cuban revolution for example would make him a hero to many reactionaries and get him in the history books. Could also drive him to use nukes on Iran. Could result in a lot of things or a bunch of nothing. But it won't really have major implications besides maybe Ukraine getting a bit better support and Russia perhaps having to sober up more about no negotiated end being in sight that restores relations with the west.

The amount theyre winning by should be a pretty clear order by the public that they want the war in Iran over. Theres a continuing resolution funding it up in December. We'll see if the new caucus can deliver the mandate the American people just very clearly delivered
