This sounds a bit like people demanding that almond milk should be called "nut juice".

Also: Buffalo wings have no buffalo.

    See there's a difference here:

Buffalo don't have wings, one can reasonably expect wings to be made of a creature that has wings. Also did you know that they're named after Buffalo, the city where they were first made?

Pigs do have rib meat, so one can reasonably expect a rib sandwich to be made of primarily rib meat, not tripe and stomach. And unless the first place to make such sandwiches was a city called Rib, I'd say McRib is named after ribs or rib meat.

Yes, I think almost everyone knows that about wings? That's kinda the joke.

Anyway, yes, I understand people might be butthurt to learn that fast food has misleading labeling. Not sure what they expect of an industry that used pink slime, however. It could be they have a legitimate complaint, but if people are shocked to find out they have some strange components being put in their low-cost mystery meat....they might not want to look too closely at a lot of things consumed without too much thought.

    Gelatin anyone? 🤣

The wild part about the almond milk thing is that is existed since the middle ages and was used as a dairy milk substitute even back then and it's been called almond milk for nearly the whole time. And yet now it's somehow a problem.

Yeah. It's weird how some of these industries fly into a panic and seek to suppress and mount campaigns against something that is an alternative, often a better alternative in many ways.

They get all litigious over calling something "milk" if it's not dairy. They preemptively get states to outlaw what is likely one of the only serious ways to address global warming: cultured meat. Which is just bonkers - it'd be like Big Carbon getting states to simply outlaw wind and solar preemptively. Imagine, getting prison time for selling cultured meat.

These industries all have assets and the knowledge to get things onto shelves already; they could simply invest in the future as well.

    You mean America’s dairy farmers?

If you look closel, instead of calling it nut juice they just invented a new word: Almondmilk. Check your fridge (if you chug nut juice). The lawyer that came up with this deserves a dinosaur sticker on their hand.

It’s all theater and distraction. Coconut milk has been around an awful long time with no issue. Same with milk of magnesia.

The dairy industry only started caring when the term milk started getting used for viable alternatives to dairy milk. Industrial lobbying is all about protecting market share and that’s it.

Mostly, yeah, but there are also kind of meatmaxxing/proteinmaxxing types that usually simp for the dairy industry, too.

An example would be any fucking moron that calls other people "soy boys" - highly likely to be one of these people that take issue with almond/soy/oat milk...
