A "real" libertarian (you know, the mythical true Scotsman) pointed out that they actually chose the worst occupation. A bunch of libertarians believe that the state should have cops to protect private property and nothing else.

I think they have a point, but the fact that that's what they take issue with is endlessly hilarious.

The whole premise the state could leave the market alone is so stupid

the state is what issues money, enforces contracts and so it controlls the legal framework of all banking, loans etc.

The state IS the game, everybody is just playing it.

Without the monopoly of force there is no confidence in contracts or debt and therefore money doesn't work anymore

You could probably have a similar effect with corporate police forces operating together through cooperative agreements (their protection included as a bonus for working with said company similar to insurance)

Insurance is also fucking stupid, and should absolutely be a public service rather than for-profit private enterprise.

insurance should actually be insurance and not the silly nonsense that covers routine maintenance that it is now

It's a racket. Most people would be better off if they just saved the money they spend on insurance. But you can't really know that up front which is the entire point. Instead the state should offer insurance as a public service without any kind of profit incentive. OR we could live in a society where it's not required at all, but that's a lot further off.
