Not sure why this jab is being made when it's not scientists who have issue with different perspectives. Paleontologists, Anthropologists, historians, and many other fields are filled with scholars which follow the scientific method to study nothing being other cultures, and the vast majority of scientific fields are rooms full of highly specialized experts arguing different perspectives and trying figure out which are accurate. Entire fields are created out of new perspectives on a subject being found.

Scientists do not like astrologists, psychics, and mediums, because they lie to people for money. It's fine if they're not taken too seriously, but these three groups have bankrupted grieving family members and often sent people down terrible life paths in the past. They do not deserve being sheltered from being the butt of a Farside joke.

It sounds like the problem is you don't know what science is. Most people who are spout comments like that are doing so because they fundamentally have failed to understand its purpose.

Science isn't about feelings or stories it's about provable fact. It's about going in and explaining the basic fundamental level how how a particular phenomenon works.

Science can explain at a molecular level how an antibiotic works, it can explain the atom by atom interactions. Can a crystal healer explain how a lump of quartz is supposed to help?

having to talk to someone who can't explain at a molecular level how an antibiotic works sounds like the worst torture imaginable, to a scientist

Imagine you said something absurd, then they took the time to carefully explain what's wrong with it, and then you refused to even try to understand their point.

Now imagine doing that to a scientist for eternity.

All of those practices were once considered "science". Eventually, the scientific method proved them all wrong and they stopped being taken seriously. Until Americans became super spiritual in the 1950s and those practices were brought back as basically pseudo religions.

A scientist having to spend time with a whole bunch of people who believe in debunked junk science from the medieval period does sound like hell.
