Post: "as a cis guy, when presented with the "99% you get a ton of money, 1% you turn into a girl" it honestly would be dumb to not hit that button until it breaks. like ok now i have 100 bajillion dollars and gender dysphoria. big deal. i have all the money in the world to turn me back into a guy. like with that kind of money i could have obama do me a phalloplasty. he wouldnt be able to do it as he isnt a surgeon but the point still stands". Reply: "Okay but hear me out OP, what if the button does the genie wish thing and it flips your internal experience of gender but doesn't change any of your external sex characteristics? This isn't even a gotcha, I'm just actually curious". Reply: "well in that case i still end up with the "shitload of money & gender dysphoria” combo but this time obama is doing a vaginoplasty instead". Reply: "all roads lead to obama bottom surgery". Why is it assumed that you'd have dysphoria in such a scenario?

It doesn't, this is based on one specific person's (OOP) gender. It's more about how having a bajillion dollars makes gender dysphoria into an incredibly easy problem to solve.

They might be saying: what if the button changes your external sex characteristics AND your internal relationship with gender

Which seems entirely not a problem

Yeah, “oh no I'm incredibly wealthy and have no other problems as a result except now I probably need new clothing which I can afford” kinda a no brainer.

Plus it would be at least interesting to have both (major) gender experiences as a cis person. Could answer a lot of subjective questions. Might even get famous about it if you can prove it through DNA or something.

TBH being a woman in today's world seems like a pretty bad deal.

I think the spirit of the question is "what if it was a trickster genie and you didn't get what you thought and were unhappy?" Like, rather than the question as phrased, I imagine the intent was "what if the 1% chance was permanent gender dysphoria regardless of any practical steps taken to alleviate it?"

I wonder how many people would just go "eh, whatever" if this happened to them, especially considering all the disadvantages of being a woman in today's world. Plus if their mind stays constant enough that becoming dysphoric is a possibility, they'd have to deal with suddenly being a different sexuality. All in all it seems pretty traumatic if it wasn't something you wanted.
